AstroSkipper
@cc333 Unfortunately I had to update my guide once again. Just as info for you! Kind regards, AstroSkipper

Therefore sometimes it may help, sometimes not. I will test that next time on my old computer without MU patch. So my preliminary answer is rather no. Well I haven't got it unblocked, and it all works fine. My only relevant Firewall exemption is for HTTPSProxy. 🙂

But there are users who have to unblock wuauclt.exe, for example like @mina7601, otherwise MU won't work for whatever reason. I'll examine your changes and update my file accordingly (I'll have to send it to you eventually, but I'm in the middle of a big move, so I haven't had much time). c

Do it when you are able to! Furthermore I have updated my guide completely and now it should be in a final state. The biggest change is in adding new steps at the end of my guide, but I think you have to compare it to your last version completely. mina7601
Well, everything is working fine for me now, but there's just this little tick which puzzles me: I can call up Windows Update fine using Start Menu, but the same can't be done for Microsoft Update, because it redirects me to this site: A little help on solving this would be great and appreciated. I installed Microsoft Update using this guide. 16 hours ago, AstroSkipper said: It's the same with me! Well, when I reset my VM and done all the steps of your guide again (but manually this time), I got the same results as you and @Dave-H's: that it worked without unblocking wuauclt.exe. Add http://update.microsoft.com to the list of trusted sites. Then it should work.

Configure Internet Explorer. Internet Zone to standard, Trusted Zone to high with only these three urls related to MU: http://www.update.microsoft.com, https://www.update.microsoft.com and http://update.microsoft.com Therefore @maile3241's tip should work. BTW I made a shortcut in my start menu targeting this url: http://fe2.update.microsoft.com/microsoftupdate/v6/default.aspx?ln=en&g_sconsumersite=1 Edited March 26, 2022 by AstroSkipper correction

I thought I had added this site to the list, but instead, It seems I added "http://update.microsoft.com." to the list, which caused this problem. Anyways, thanks, It's working fine for me now after adding it to the list. Edited March 24, 2022 by mina7601

Unfortunately it's not possible in all cases. One can say a bit "old school" but I take it rather than a compliment. AIO packages can be great but they are not my favourites. AstroSkipper
@mina7601 If I understood correctly, you did all from scratch, just for testing purpose?

More likely because you were right about performing it manually, so yeah.

Apparently the wuaueng.dll was not replaced properly. Copy the patched file to C:\Windows\system32\dllcache and to C:\Windows\system32. Of course, stop the Automatic Update Service beforehand.
