Hmm, I've been trying to build a home and pro iso with all the updates but without much success. Using the update list on the 1st post and wget, I was able to download the required updates for XP sp3 pt-pt but if I use nlite to integrate, some updates are not installed and if I use DXUPAC to create an update pack, the installer fails with missing files.

Is there any of you doing this? I rather have a ready to install ISO for old pc's than the individual updates. I'm trying to create the most clean implementation.

Also, I've also made a list of updates by installing a clean XP PRO SP3 on a virtual machine and I've noticed that windows update offers me some updates that are missing from the list. Are they superseeded?

I've done the same as you, but in language zh-cn. You could search my previous post for nlite setting file. Did those updates not installed show messages about missing sprv****.dll (in my case, sprv0804.dll) ? English version has no such error. I found this file is actually xpsp4res.dll, and I solved it by creating fake file, since it will later be replaced by updated version. HTH.

It's mid August, and WU and MU are still working fine on Windows 2000 and XP-x64 over here, with no signs of it stopping any time soon (I'd imagine it would display a warning to the effect of, "Windows[Microsoft] Update will be shutting down soon" to give users some advance warning.

I'm starting to think maybe this was just some F.U.D designed to scare off the few who are still using XP.

Certainly the date for withdrawal that was first mooted turned out to be incorrect.
I'm still hoping that Microsoft Update at least will be kept online while updates to things like Office 2010, which is (supposedly) compatible with XP, and still in support, are still being rolled out.
I wouldn't bet on them putting up any warning though when it's pulled. They didn't for the Windows 98 version, one day it was just suddenly gone!

I can confirm that as of today - September 4th, 2019 - Windows Update is still working fine on Windows XP with IE8 installed and all updates are still available.

Office 2010 (32-bit) is compatible with XP. All you need is 32-bit OS and SP3 + IE8 installed. Support drop date is set to 2020, not sure which month though. A fact worth noting is that it's the last Office version to work with XP and non-SSE2 processors.

By the way, a few years ago I created an unofficial cumulative update which consists of all XP and MCE 2005 updates, and Firefox. Accordingly to user's will it can also install any .NET Framework version and DirectX Redist. Is it ok if I put it on this forum?

Being pedantic, I should point out that Office 2010 isn't actually compatible with Windows XP any more, as recent security updates include a version of MSO.DLL with isn't XP compatible.
It is therefore necessary to use an out of date version of MSO.DLL for the programs to run on XP, potentially opening up security risks.
Microsoft have shown no sign of addressing this problem, despite being told about it, so I can only assume that as far as they are concerned, XP compatibility has been dropped.
That's why I said "supposedly" in my post.

By the way, for future reference, has anybody ever managed to reverse engineer what makes the WU site work, and create a reasonably functional facsimile? Or better yet, an actual archived version with full functionality?

It could then serve as a very nice front end to the super nice to have update archives the community has developed, I think.

Never heard of it before, never used it before and it looks like nothing for XP or Office 2007 was released since they died in the eyes of Microsoft, but if something appears, "Extended support" will remain closed for us, normies, and there will be no "Exceptional" patch on WU/MU... one might take a try?

Have not tried WU yet as my IE isnt up to date yet,but WSUS offline update can still pull updates as of today. Version 9.2.5 the ESR release. Working on building a ISO with anything it can pull in the hopes it might be useful

if you install the embedded ones and check out with windows update mini tool they are not listed there any more, in my case only a dozen updates are missing.

Windows XP Embedded and POSReady 2009 are two variants of the same system. They based on the same XP core, so most updates are interchangable. If you updated your system with a bunch of XP Embedded updates, their variants for other XP flavours will not be visible, as this patch is already installed.

Until 2016 (Windows embedded End of Support), M$ published patches for both Embedded and POSReady as the very same file, see here for example.

After 2016, Embedded was no longer supported, so they are named POSReady 2009 patches in the catalogue :)

tl;dr this is expected behaviour.

the updates of WSUS tool are all named as embedded (116 in total)

how do you download POSR 2009 updates and install them all offline with a single click ?

I was downloading POSReady2009 updates manually. WSUS offline didn't work for my use-case. Didn't try windows update mini tool so I don't know if it works.

If you need them in one installer, someone needs to wrap them for you into one package.

A couple of days ago I was testing Klonezilla and used to to clone an XP master drive.  The drive had SP3 but hadn't been powered up since october 2012. It was up-to-date at that time.  I started the clone and was surprised to see, within a few minutes, the gold shield in the task bar telling me there were updates available.  Seemed to be a few dozen updates, the last on the list being the XP end of life notification.  I selected all except for the EOL notification and they downloaded and installed, and then no other updates were offered.  I then ran my POS reg file (the one that creates 4 registry keys) and restarted several times but still no other updates were offered.  I was thinking that maybe I'll re-clone the drive and then run the reg file before I let it try accessing the WU server.  Or is what I'm seeing known behavior - that MS is no longer offering POS updates through WU?
