On decommissioning of update servers for 2000, XP, (and Vista?) as of July 2019

Hello.

I have uploaded all the Windows XP x86 English updates generated by latest WSUS Offline (9.2.5) here: https://archive.org/details/WindowsXPx86ENU-Updates

I am currently in the process of adding Vista (x86/x64) and XP/2003 (x64) in separate places on the Internet Archive. This post will be edited once I have uploaded them with the extra URLs.

Thought this was worth mentioning on here in case anyone wanted to download directly a prepared WSUS Offline image file containing the updates instead of having to generate it all themselves, so enjoy!

July 19 is here, windows update is still working!

I knew it,that newspaper lied to us and made false panic  The "real" shutdown probably will be when Office 2010 support ends like it was with Office XP on 98/ME in 2011 and Office 2000 on 95 in 2009

The time will come when AU / WU / MU will not work anymore. There were already div. Updates and hotfixes taken from the net. It can not be fast enough for you.

Glad Windows update still works! :D But you know, "better safe than sorry". It's good we're already taking care of these updates. Who knows when they won't be available :(

Thank you for your help in this! :thumbup The ISO image will be really useful!

I wish I had a faster internet connection, to help with the ESN updates. I think I have an ISO image somewhere made with WSUS Offline, but it's really heavy (if I recall correctly, it's over 2 GB). My upload speed is so slow :(. Maybe other users could help in this way, too? That'd be awesome! :worship:

And now regarding the checked links!

@Mcinwwl, here's a ZIP with two files: one has the original URLs  [proc_urls.txt] (as I said, just one per line, without all the info found inside the other text files), and the other have the Wayback Machine prefix [wbm_urls.txt] (https://web.archive.org/web/). I took care of AppLocale and Internet Explorer 7, so these links should be working.

(I'm double checking all of them again, just to be sure. Haven't started with the Wayback Machine ones, though... I really hope they're alive. When I find enough time I'll check them.)

Thank you! :hello:

I had problems uploading Vista’s since it was a 7GB total and my network timed out, though.

... Does this mean Vista will be left out? :( Was the 7GB figure for both 32-bit/64-bit architectures? If affirmative, perhaps separate standalone uploads for only x86 and only x64 should be attempted... Thanks, regardless... :thumbup

Can anyone on Windows 2000 access the Windows Update website?

I suspect that it will only be a matter of time when Microsoft decommissions the Windows Update website especially since Microsoft will end downgrade rights to Windows XP after Windows 7 reaches end of life on January 14, 2020.

I don't have a ready system with WU only, but right now MU is working perfectly on W2k Pro.

Updated!

@PCDW_386's post above linekd in first post. Please keep it updated so we are fully covered (love delegating responsibility ^^)

File in 1st post updated.

Updates:
-Added .net links, courtesy of @heinoganda (3.5 and 4.0 Wayback machine references not tested yet)
-Added Server 2003-only links for .Net updates
-Updated marks of SSE2-exclusive patches + added their list at the end, courtesy of @ED_Sln

Questuions:
- Server 2003 .NET 1.1 patches have only 18 languages, instead of "normal" 24 variants. Was .NET 1.1 published in limited locales, or did MS manage to wipe off some links?
- Are there multi-locale links for those patches?
- Do we want to archive Powershell 1.0? links are still on-line, but we have PS 2.0, so is there any reason for that?

Problems:
- Links for KB2978114 (Server-2003 only) are all dead, and Wayback Machine finds nothing in archive. Can we somehow lay our hand on those files?
- I did not wayback-machine-archived .NET 1.1 links yet.

There were some problems with previous file versions, due to magnificent board's copy-paste capabilities, any problems report to me, please :)

I would say yes, all updates and packages are important, even those that have been superseded. Non-superseded ones are a higher priority obviously though.

For the 64 bit version, it seems, there was no update.
