Where could I find information about a retrieved hotfix?

I encountered a MS bug about remote desktop today and googled to a hotfix KB972828, but there is no result when I searched in Microsoft Update Catalog, and the KB article link is invalid either. The information I can get is from http://thehotfixshare.net/board/index.php?showtopic=13598 , "KB972828 - Files that are copied from a Windows Server 2008-based remote computer to a Windows XP SP3-based client computer by using the Remote Desktop Connection 6.1 client are corrupted". The file is signed, but I'd like to know why MS retrieved it back, if the hotfix has bug, superseded by some new fix or not. I am uncertain if I should install it.

The hotfix "KB972828" updates the file "lhmstscx.dll" if RDP 6.1 exists (I use RDP 7.0 myself). Security update KB2813345 (Info / Download from WSUS catalog) dated 04/08/2013 includes a more recent version of the lhmstscx.dll file, so KB972828 can not be installed. KB2813345 includes a QFE branch, which usually includes previous hotfixes. To try this out, first you have to uninstall the existing KB2813345 and install the downloaded KB2813345 manually with the parameter "/b:SP3QFE". I wish you success!

As usual, Microsoft's version numbering is ridiculous and confusing.

If you open RDC, you can right-click the top left corner and click "About" to see version info. RDC 7.0 (the last for XP SP3) looks like this:rdc70abt.PNG.4675221daf4eb642923ea35eddafdb31.PNG

Naturally it says Version 6.1.7600, not 7.0. The only thing that says 7.0 is "Protocol 7.0 supported."

If you don't have the version above, you can get it by installing KB969084, which Microsoft has naturally removed, but you can still download it from the Wayback Machine at:

https://web.archive.org/web/20130721164659/https://download.microsoft.com/download/A/D/B/ADB61C11-6705-437A-ACAD-CAA9C0200C4C/WindowsXP-KB969084-x86-enu.exe

Once you install it, you'll need to install KB2813347, which is available via MU even though RDC 7.0 itself isn't available anymore.  (Apparently KB2813345 is for RDC 6.1 and KB2813347 is for RDC 7.0.) M$ sure makes it complicated!
