After installing XP I want to install Firefox, so I try to start Internet Explorer, but I am unable to get past the error message having something with a certificate to do. Is there anything I can do to circumvent that problem?

Err msg:   Your connection is not secure.

The security certificate presented by this website has expired or is not yet valid.

Security certificate problems may indicate an attempt to fool you or intercept any data you send to the server.

NEWS:

I installed Firefox, entered the right values for time and date, and the problem disappeared. Voila.

If your time and date is fine (check that first) It's likely that IE is too old to have proper security ciphers to connect to the mozilla website, try downloading the installer directly.
(EN-US) http://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/firefox/releases/52.9.0esr/win32/en-US/Firefox Setup 52.9.0esr.exe

for other countries/languages, go here:
http://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/firefox/releases/52.9.0esr/win32/
and select your language-country code and download the appropriate installer inside.
You can either do this directly from the XP system or you can save the installer to a flash drive from another PC

I can't download to the XP machine, because of a certificate problem when starting IE.

But I can download to my Win 10 machine.

There I have another problem. I know I have accessed the hard disk before, but today I don't know how to do it

The FF installer I found was for Win7. I don't know why I didnt find the one for XP.

I am about to give up. I copy the download link but when I want to find the saved installer file I can't find it or open the hard drive where I suppose it must be..  My head is spinning. I am not comfortable being 90. I have accesed the hard drive on my Win 10 machine but that was another day. Today I am unable to do it.

Update:

I installed Firefox, entered the right values for time and date, and the problem disappeared. Voila.

@Roffen or anyone

You should not have any issues downloading the Firefox installers as long as you have XP SP3. The certificate errors would be due to outdated XP service packs, not outdated Internet Explorer.

I have downloaded Firefox on dozens of machines with Internet Explorer 6, 7, and 8 with SP3. This is successful because SP3 contains updated CRYPT32, RSAENH and other cryptographic files and libraries which are required for SHA2 support, among many other improvements and fixes.

For example, if you attempt to open  secure websites such as Outlook Webmail on IE 6 with XP SP2, it will fail. But, with SP3 it will succeed. (You should also change IE's settings to TLS instead of SSL because of the POODLE vulnerability).

For future reference, you can download XP SP3 directly from my FTP or the Internet Archive: http://sdfox7.com/xp/sp3/windowsxp-kb936929-sp3-x86-enu.exe or https://web.archive.org/web/20140119014510/http://download.microsoft.com/download/d/3/0/d30e32d8-418a-469d-b600-f32ce3edf42d/WindowsXP-KB936929-SP3-x86-ENU.exe

I also have the installers for Internet Explorer here (IE 6 is included in XP so the download link is unnecessary):

Internet Explorer 7: http://sdfox7.com/xp/sp2/IE7-WindowsXP-x86-enu.exe or https://web.archive.org/web/20130509183828/http://download.microsoft.com/download/3/8/8/38889dc1-848c-4bf2-8335-86c573ad86d9/IE7-WindowsXP-x86-enu.exe

Internet Explorer 8: http://sdfox7.com/xp/sp3/IE8-WindowsXP-x86-enu.exe or https://web.archive.org/web/20130510043925/http://download.microsoft.com/download/C/C/0/CC0BD555-33DD-411E-936B-73AC6F95AE11/IE8-WindowsXP-x86-ENU.exe
