For those who updated everything via Legacy Update and are now stuck, you want to uninstall KB4504738. Uninstall that, and you should be good.

Or just substitute MSO.DLL with @jumper's modified version.

The installation then appears fully up to date and works.

Thank you, @MilkChan, but it seems kind of overkill to a noob like me. @jumper patched and made available a single file (for the 32-bit version of MSO 2010), hope he can do this for the 64-bit version too and save the hassle :-)
