Office 2019 on Windows 8.x!

It installs after fooling the installer into thinking it's running on Windows 10. Installed programs seem to function without issues at first glance without any workarounds.

No luck running the installer on Windows 7. It wants SetCoalescableTimer function (Windows 8 and up), which I could redirect to SetTimer, but then the exception is thrown in msxml6.dll and I don't know how to proceed further.

Actually, Office 2019 works just fine on both 7 and 8.1... Since Office 2019 shares the same version files as Office 2016 and 365 (which both work on 7 and 8.1), you need to circumvent the artificial block. It just requires a bit of work with some hidden executable.

I would direct everyone to this thread on MyDigitalLife, where user ratzlefatz made a tool to install Office 2019 on 7 and 8.1. In case you need proof, I used it to install it on my 7 VM:

I suspected this might be the case. At least when you run the installer on the official Office 2019 image, it runs successfully on both Windows 8 and 8.1 if you use the debugger to make RtlGetVersion function in ntdll.dll return Windows 10's major and minor version; 10.0.

I stopped upgrading MS Word and Outlook at version 2003 and Excel, Visio, Publisher and PowerPoint at version 2010 because MS started removing features I liked, allegedly out of concern for security. What are the advantages of paying an annual $70 to $100 fee for the latest version of MS Office and being encouraged to park your data in the cloud? I don't mean this sarcastically, I'm willing to be convinced.

Given that newer versions are just incremental upgrades and downgrades in some ways from previous versions, there probably aren't any compelling reasons, except if there's some extreme requirement by a certain user. Can't think of any from my POV as a non-demanding user.

I just made this thread to highlight the silliness of restricting Office 2019 to Windows 10. :)

My reason for installing Office 2019 is mostly because Outlook 2013 doesn't support synchronizing with Google Calendar but Outlook 2019 does. There aren't any good third party solutions either, except for using Thunderbird.

I went to that link - OfficeRTool - Is it the same? It does not say anywhere that it supports 7/ 8.1 installation. Has the tool changed or evolved? Thoughts.

Can you check which version you had and what steps you took for install?

Need to do an install on 8.1
