Getting digital rights management (DRM) Error when trying to play Netflix videos.  This problem just started (only on XP).  Getting it on both New Moon and My pal browsers.  Have tried the following fixes......

Clear Browser, Close Browser, Netflix sign out then sign in again. Restart computer.  Reinstall Microsoft Silverlight.

Click on Microsoft Sliverlight and clear application storage.  Make sure appropriate checks are in place.

C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Microsoft\PlayReady
Right click on the "mspr.hds" file and choose Delete

C:\Documents and Settings\Brian MacCallum\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Silverlight
Right click on the "is" folder and choose Delete

Nothing has worked.  Can anyone help?

Uh... that's weird.

I personally don't watch Netflix (I work for a broadcast company and I'm actually fine with our contents), but I just looked at their site and it says that the minimum OS version is Windows XP, Google Chrome version 37 or Mozilla Firefox version 47.

Make sure that the date on your computer is correct.

If it is, I would suggest you to try with Chromium 54 http://browser.taokaizen.com/ or Firefox 52.9 ESR https://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/firefox/releases/52.9.0esr/win32/en-GB/

Although New Moon is supposed to be made from Firefox, it might not work as Firefox with some particular sites like Netflix.

@WoodyXP

Silverlight should be working for Firefox, but NetFlix is discontinuing support for it in favor of HTML5.

I use NetFlix successfully in Google Chrome on Windows XP all the time. You are probably missing the WidevineCDM component which is required for NetFlix.

You can no longer download the component from within Chrome, but I have it backed up to my FTP: http://sdfox7.com/xp/sp3/EOL/WideVineCDM/1.4.8.zip

You must download it and unzip to C:\Documents and Settings\Stephen Fox\Local Settings\Application Data\Google\Chrome\User Data (replace my user name in red with the user name of your computer)

I discussed this in a separate thread I created last year:

@WoodyXP @FranceBB

Just to demonstrate, I am at this very moment watching Netflix on my Dell Inspiron 1720 with no issue in Google Chrome and Windows XP. So, as long as you have the WidevineCDM in the proper directory, you also should be fine.

(The West Wing is one of my favorite shows, RIP John Spencer and Kathyrn Joosten):

Isn't DRM disabled on Pale Moon - and thus also on New Moon and My Pal?

Moonchild made a huge ideological stance against DRM.

If they don't support no one will be bothered since palemooon is just 0.03%

Well Pale Moon does not support DRM - that's a known fact:

From MoonMutt himself :

"Woof! woof! woof!"   (oh wait let me turn on Google Translate, here we go!)  "Pale Moon has not, does not, and will not support in-browser DRM."

The Pale Moon team has spoken.

Well good news!  I retried all my previous fixes.  Then tried Firefox like you suggested and got Netflix working again.  The funny part is that now Netflix works on Mypal and New Moon as well.

Hmmmm! (regarding NetFlix now working on the Moon derivatives.)  Don't know what to tell you there

Sounds like you had a plug-in issue. Any plug-ins that are installed for Firefox will retroactively work for Pale Moon/New Moon.

So,if Flash Player for Firefox is correctly installed on your system, then it will also work inside of Pale Moon. I am using the ZIP version of Pale Moon and it automatically detects the Firefox plug-in.

I guess my question is, does DRM work in New Moon and MyPal?  I would think that if it doesn't work in Pale Moon, then it wouldn't work in New Moon either.  Is this correct @roytam1?

official build has --disable-eme while my UXP builds has --enable-eme, so DRM may work (I haven't tested)

Hi I am pretty computer illiterate I tried following these simple instructions and did not get the desired result.  can you help?

I don't think it will work if you install it now. Google has moved up to Widevine version 1.4.10.

I think version 1.4.8 will still work if you started using Netflix while it was supported, but they won't issue new licenses for version 1.4.8 any more.
