Hi, am testing KM74-goanna on windows98SE too.
But there is so much confusion where the (too few) testers are posting. A bit here, a bit there, a bit everywhere... and no one knows of the others.

For example not sure if it was even mentioned here that roytam already posted an update some days ago? Instead saw it in the NewMoon thread:
https://msfn.org/board/topic/177125-my-build-of-new-moon-temp-name-aka-pale-moon-for-xp/?page=54
"...and updated test binary of K-Meleon 74 with Goanna 2.2(palemoon-26.5) that works in Win2000:"
http://o.rthost.cf/gpc/files1.rt/KM74-g22-20180516.win2000.7z

Of course, there is also a thread in the K-Meleon Forum, there the newest link is always found in the first post:
http://kmeleonbrowser.org/forum/read.php?19,146040,page=1

Have also found some discussion in a russian forum (googletranslate helps):
http://forum.ru-board.com/topic.cgi?forum=62&topic=28114&start=5340

With the very first version I had probs too, then updated my old KernelEx from v452 to 2016.17. But can't remember at the moment if this update helped or if it was roytams KM-update (version 20180516).
At any rate, since that update I could connect to the web!
And a bit later httpS sites also started working, after adding this workaround:
must first copy into the KM74 profile 3 *.db files from another browser (for example from an old Firefox 3.5 profile)

But not all users seem to need this workaround for httpS. Hermes said "all basic functions" fully work for him. Not sure why, but perhaps because he installed KernelEx from zero to version2016.17 in one step, on a clean system? And it also seems to work for some other uses.

Am suspecting the prob is my chaotic system since I updated KernelEx. And then started messing around with single files and settings, trying to get some older apps working again, which that update has crippled. Especially, NONE of my browsers (except retrozilla-FF2) can create a key3.db file anymore since that KernelEx Udpate! Well possible I did something wrong. Any tips? Am afraid will have to try and fully uninstall and then re-install KernelEx again, just not yet that complicated stuff. Am just an end-user, not a developer andno clue of system stuff either.

Okay, looks like these are the steps

1. Install KernelEx 4.5.2
2. Install the KernelEx updates by jumper
3. Obtain K-Meleon
4. Set k-meleon.exe to Windows 2000 SP4
5. Transfer db files from another browser to k-meleon???

So I used the .db profile files from Firefox 8 in Windows 98 and it seemed to somewhat help. The browser now says google has loaded (even though it didn't) instead of giving an error. Yahoo.com freezes while loading, and bing does load but then freezes soon after. I installed the kernelex updates about 6 months ago (have they changed since then?) and set the browser compatibility mode to Windows 2000 SP4. I'm not really sure what the issue is though.

As of now, Internet Explorer 5 is still more useful.

Patience, everyone! :)

Report bugs, yes. But lets try not to be overly critical. Backporting browsers is no easy task, and there are precious few people who will even attempt it for Windows 9x. Whatever time roytam1 can devote to the issue deserves our thanks.

Also remember that since this build is technically backported to Windows 2000 (and thus requiring KernelEx) different implementations and individual configurations of KernelEx along with any other "unofficial" packages you may have installed can also affect how things work.

Has anybody tried using Mozilla/Netscape plugins for roytam1's 9x port? I'm asking because it's critical to get a decent adblock like U-Block working on ancient systems otherwise the ads would probably eat up all the ram alone. Can't use virtual machine atm.

If anybody with success can put this Firefox xpi into the plugins folder, that would be perfect!

sorry, but... "Mozilla/Netscape plugins" usually mean NPAPI DLLs, so as Flash Player, Sun Java... are u sure, that its need u?

or u told about "Firefox addons" like AdBlock Plus on addons.mozilla.org? if so - Kmeleon is NOT Firefox, Goanna is NOT Gecko...

and even on FF, addons need put in extensions folder, not in plugins...

the problem of crashes on kex is kex-specified, most of them doesn't happen in win2000.

and the bigger problem is that, when it crash in kex, I am unable to gather proper stack trace with function names, which makes debugging much more header.

I tried changing the useragent string, but I guess being up late is having negative effects on me...

Could someone try adding a Firefox 59.0.2 string in their K-Meleon installation and try obtaining the U-Block origin extension from there???
To do this:
1. Click gear icon
2. Click tools
3. Go to useragent
4. Click option to create useragent string
Here's a link to useragent strings: https://udger.com/resources/ua-list

Update: I tried and got this

Glad you found the culprit is NOT some random “UNOFFICIAL” package but something specific. You’re the best.
