MBR, GPT and system backup/image

Recommended Posts

Suppose we have a system that boots Windows 7 up from a MBR partitioned SSD, and also sports a GPT partitioned HDD of 4TB size.

Will it work OK if we place the Windows 7 data file backup and system image on the 4TB HDD?

Or would locating them on a GPT partitioned HDD be a bad idea in a system that boots up from a MBR partitioned SSD?

Do you boot from the SSD still? Are file \bootmr and \boot\bcd stored at the SSD?
Yes, boots up from a MBR partitioned SSD works fine, Windows system and data ciles can be at the GPT partitioned HDD.

They are separate disks, so there is no issue with them being multiple types. You only need EFI enabled, in regards to disks, if you want to BOOT off of a GPT disk.

Thanks for the replies, I'll report back on how it goes empirically in a few days time.
