SFC - details how it works

Recommended Posts

Hello,
i have question about SFC, how it works, i have some errors in hp* files in Win7, which could be fixed through sfc /scannow and sfcfix.exe utility.

There some tutorial how to recover files form other installation.

Question is how sfc works? These checked files are exactly what?:
1) Windows 7 installation cd files
2) Windows 7 installation cd files + updates
3) Windows 7 installation cd files + updates + installed drivers
4) Windows 7 installation cd files + updates + installed drivers + installed program drivers

Because problem is where to find these..

Here is my list of errors:

How could such errors be created?

link is dead

buf afaik sfc does some comparison against SxS folder, then uses i guess base assembly files (RTM/SP1)
to "repair" s***, not sure if it connects online for comparison to download updated versions of those later

Sorry for dead link, i fixed it. I case of Windows 7 only offline store is used, i copied all files from other Windows 7 machine a replaced original, it worked.

Because i had 79 broken files and all files are system protected and have some typical modern Windows permission fiddling, i have created some batch script for fixing, maybe it
could help someone, you simply need to have files from new working machine in directory, change list of files for your broken files and adjust target directory - all this info could be provided by SFCfix tool:
