I follow instructions well and when I said nothing happens, that is what I meant. I am NOT a newbie!!!

I would have described your:

"nothing happens"

as:

"when I click on Select device a pop-up windows opens but the droplist is empty, i.e. there is no device I can select".

But I am usually considered "verbose".

If you was able to explain a thousand words from the image, then it was self-explanatory that it didn't work. I guess being terse have some drawbacks. At the end of the day "Nothing Happens" is what I posted from the start, regardless the toe-tag you put on it.

Ok, the application distinguishes the wireless card from lan card by searching for "Wireless" or "Wifi" string in the adapter's name, so I guess i'll just remove that filter.

While it would be good thing to do if there isn't a better way to make a distinction, I don't think that's the issue. I have the same adapter (RTL8723BE) on my laptop running Windows 8.1 and the list is empty as well. I also tried it on Windows 10 VM, where there's only wired adapter, no luck there neither.

If someone can point the registry key for that I can make a complete app that will change colours randomly at different time intervals or when user wants with different settings.

May be you can contact the autor of this patch www.dr-hoiby.com/TrayIconIn256Color/index.php
