IE 11 on Windows 8

If you go to the Microsoft's page for Internet Explorer downloads you will see that there is stated that there is no IE 11 for Windows 8. This is not quite true since some time ago there was an IE 11 version for Windows 8. I have downloaded it at the time and in fact it is the IE 11.0.0.7 version for Windows 7. If you go to that page and choose to download the IE 11 for Windows 7 you will get the same file which you can normally install and use on Windows 8.

And how do you install it? Where's the link? Just use the regular exe or extract the cabs and use Dism to install? Also, how do you apply updates? Do you apply the Windows 7 updates or the 8.1 updates?

This seriously needs a better explanation.

Well, with IE11, it's possible WU will offer you updates, since IE11 remains supported...
But, if not, you must apply Win 7 IE11 updates, to match the IE11 version you've installed...
It'd make no sense to install Win 7 IE11, and update it with Win 8.1 IE11 updates, now... or does it?

I'm sorry to say, but the installer starts, asks to install, but doesn't do anything. It asks right away to restart without having installed anything. I've tested it on my Windows 8.0 VM with the portuguese installer on the link: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/17621/internet-explorer-downloads

ok i have IE 11 on my win 7 computer right now and I have IE 11 on my win 8 tablet.  I get updates for them from WU.  I don't use IE 11 tho I use any other browser except Internet Xploder for the last 20 years.

If you’re running Windows 8.1, you already have Internet Explorer 11, so there’s nothing you need to install. If you're running Windows 8.0,  Internet Explorer 11 is not supported.

 

11 comes with 8.1 out of the box.  Question is why are you running 8.0 and trying to install 11.  Why are you running a highly vulnerable OS like 8.0 no service pack then trying to run a highly vulnerable browser like internet xploder.  This is dumb i'm sorry.

I wasn't the one initiating this conversation.  The OP claimed that he got a version of IE 11 running on Windows 8.  I just wanted to check the legitimacy of his claim.  I've removed Internet Explorer using Add/Remove features.  So I'm no trying to run IE 11.

Nope, the installer linked by @dencorso does not work. This one gives out an error saying the OS is not supported... I think OP should step in and tell us exactly how he got Internet Explorer 11 working on Windows 8.0, step by step.

I even tried extracting the cabs and install it with Dism, but no luck...

If you select Windows 8/8.1 it says that there is no IE 11 for Windows 8, if you select Windows 7 you can download IE 11 for Windows 7.

File: EIE11_EL-GR_WOL_WIN764.EXE (the greek version), version 11.0.0.7, size 57,2 MB.

Here I must make a confession. Until now I haven't installed IE 11 (I preferred to stay with IE 10 for the moment). I have started the installation to check If it installs but I haven't finished it. Today I did a complete installation to check what happens. It installs alright (at least so it says), reaches the point where it says "You have installed Internet Explorer 11. You must restart your computer etc.", I restart and I still have IE 10! I haven't seen anything like that before. I submit the contents of the IE11_main.log file in Windows folder:
