HoppaLong
I just purchased an Epson AIO printer. My Computer lists this device correctly under Scannersand Cameras. However, a nonexistent Removable Disk is also listed under Devices with RemovableStorage. If you select this phantom Removable Disk with your mouse a message box appears. It says, "Please insert a disk into drive." In Device Manager it's listed under Disk Drives as EPSON Storage USB Device. I apologize for asking this question, when I already know the answer. Is there something I can do to remove that phantom drive from My Computer? Edited November 1, 2017 by HoppaLong
bphlpt
I'm guessing that your AIO printer has a slot that you can plug an SD or other memory card into? If so, that's probably what is being picked up, so it isn't actually a phantom drive. Cheers and Regards
HoppaLong
Thanks bphlpt. After having some bad luck with AIO printers, a friend recommended this model. It prints, copies, scans, and faxes. I don't see any additional slots for SD cards, USB sticks, etc. I downloaded a 295 page user manual. Maybe something in this lengthy manual will explain the Removable Disk in My Computer. When I power up this printer, I hear the assigned WAV sound for a new external device. XP is loading two devices, because I hear that sound twice! It's not causing any problems, but I would like to understand what's happening. Destro
Welp if you would of just put the manufacture and the model number. I mean It's hard to help you. How would anyone but you know? Edited November 1, 2017 by Destro
HoppaLong
SOLUTION: I opened the Device Manager window before powering up my AIO printer. A new listing appeared underImaging Devices > EPSON WF-2750/2760 Series. The redundant (and useless) item under Disk Drives >EPSON Storage USB Device has been disabled. Removable Disk is gone from My Computer. All printer operations are working normally. Why don't I uninstall EPSON Storage USB Device from Device Manager? After using all printer functions several times, uninstalling is probably a good idea. I say "probably" because this item may reassert itself each time I press the power button. jumper
"AIO" = All In One Have you tested the scanner? "Please insert a disk into drive" may just mean that you haven't scanned anything yet so a file system hasn't been created in the EPSON WF-2750's internal memory yet. ...Or that you need to insert a thumb drive or SD card into an EPSON WF-2760 (as previously suggested by @bphlpt!).
