Unfortunately, you haven't given us much information about your hardware, but "computer is too new" may mean you're running up against this problem:

In which case--if your motherboard does not have a PS/2 connector--there is no way to make your USB ports work in Windows 2000 Professional.

Would an object like this be of use?

https://www.ebay.com/itm/PCI-32bit-Dual-PS2-PS-2-Card-PC-Keyboard-Mouse-PCI-2Ports-PS-2-without-USB-/181671723885

Or would that require a driver the Windows 2000 installation would not have at Install?

I'm going to buy this object, thanks. :)

You could also just use WINNT.SIF to make your installation process fully automatic so that no user input will be required.

You could then use your mouse to install the USB drivers once the OS is running. That is what I use when testing Windows 2000 installation in a VM.

Alternatively you could just integrate the USB drivers into your Windows source before the installation.
