My Browser Builds (Part 1)

Recommended Posts

Just got a request of SSE(not SSE2) build, and I updated latest PM27 build post adding SSE build.
since 52ESR can't compile as IA32 or SSE, I created 45ESR fork and picking changes from tenfourfox repo.

test binary: https://o.rthost.cf/gpc/files1.rt/firefox-45.9.8-20180530-1ff8f7bef-win32-sse.7z

repo: https://github.com/roytam1/mozilla45esr

Some time ago I suddenly couldn't login anymore. Now after the server crash I can again. Strange! :dubbio:

roytam1, thanks for the SSE builds!

I'm still using an AMD Athlon XP cpu as well. Watching videos in-browser is next to impossible. I'm using 3DYD - Youtube Source instead. It's a DirectShow sourcefilter that you can use with Media Player Classic - HC/BE to open youtube-urls.

3DYD have even forked LAV Filters to be WinXP compatible and in addition added support for TLS 1.2.

With a SLOW CPU ; you are always better off to DOWNLOAD the FULL VIDEO FILE to your HARD DRIVE (saved as say an MP4 or WEBM video file). Then use a stand alone Video Player like MPC-BE (Black Edition), POTPLAYER, or VLC (well known) to play the video file LOCAL off your own HARD DRIVE. You get a better result that way. Trying to play EMBEDDED VIDEO on a SLOW CPU via a BROWSER in a STREAM DATA situation is a WORSE choice (my view).

As far as how to DOWNLOAD a video file (MP4, WEBM) -- I would suggest (free) YOUTUBE-DL.exe -- which is a Command Line Interface (CLI) program -- uses CMD.EXE (Win OS). YT-DL also interfaces with (free, CLI) FFMPEG.exe automatically, for merging of separate Video and Audio files that it downloads. Lots of 'power' (download options) that the YT-DL and FFMPEG combination allows it. YT-DL works on a LONG list of websites -- not just YouTube alone.

http://blog.k-tai-douga.com  <-- FFMPEG version that works (compiled) for WinXP and YT-DL. Official FFMPEG site stopped supporting WinXP awhile back. It is the 'LEGACY / Windows XP' labled one.

@CoRoNe (below msg) said --> "Streaming or downloading first makes no difference if you ask me."

IF the say MP4 file is FULLY DOWNLOADED, then there is no concern about BUFFERING the data stream in the Media Player. There is LESS stress on the CPU to just 'Media Play' a FULLY DOWNLOADED MP4 file via a stand alone Media Player (my view). But in the end, WYSIWYG = What YOU See is What YOU Get. If something works well for you -- then it does.  :)

Mine can handle 720p H.264 just fine. For 1080p though I'd really need the videocard's DXVA capabilities.

Streaming or downloading first makes no difference if you ask me. With 3DYD Youtube Source setup to prefer the 1080p H.264 videostream and the Opus audiostream, together with the latest still working DXVA videodecoder from MPC-BE I can watch Youtube videos no problem without having to download them first.

@Mods:
Due to the server crash everything between 2018-Feb-12 until Jun-1 was lost, as written here:
https://msfn.org/board/topic/177484-server-crashed-lost-data/

But someone made a **BACKUP** on waybackmachine just 1-2 before!
Would be great if you can add the link to the post above:
http://web.archive.org/web/20180530180748/https://msfn.org/board/

Whoever made that Backup, 100x thanks!!
And of course mighty glad MSFN has survived too, was really worried it could be completely lost now :-)))

@roytam1:
Am very glad and grateful for your work and builds, but it's all the more a pity that K-Meleon postings are completely lost inside a dedicated NewMOON topic. And KM74-Goanna is quite hard to find in the "backporting" melting-pot topic too. Please, consider to make own topics for each? It would be so much handier to follow those 2 major projects in their own threads.

https://o.rthost.cf/palemoon/palemoon-28.0.0a2.win32-git-20180602-84d731716-xpmod.7z
I installed the above NewMoon SNEAKPEAK 28 version. The feature where you have the 'window box' where it prompts you upon opening launch to make it your DEFAULT BROWSER -- to 'click' the button to choose to make it the DEFAULT did NOT work. You can 'click' the button -- but it does NOT change to DEFAULT BROWSER -- and the wording below does NOT change either. Which is good, in that it is indicating that it 'fails' on that.

Also, for ME, the 'NewMoon 27' versions do NOT work on the currently active MSFN.ORG website for POSTING messages. The QUOTE feature is NOT visible. And the REPLY BOX, if I 'click' in there, it 'hangs' in a "LOADING" message mode. I am using BASILISK52 for posting these messages -- which gets the job done, if more slowly overall (for me).

Added: @roytam1 suggested for PM27 --> Choose "Firefox compatibility" in Options (Msg below)

That FIXED my problem -- THANKS !!!   :)

Going to locate my 'If It Ain't Broke - Leave Well Enough Alone' T-Shirt   :angel

for PM28, read disclaimer.

for PM27, make sure you choose "Firefox compatibility" in Options -> Advanced -> General -> Compatibility.

you know that KM release post is just a mirror in case KM forum is not working (yeah sf hosting sucks)

and IIRC there is not much KM discussions in this thread (before forum HD crashing)

What is the difference between "basilisk/UXP" "basilisk/moebius" "New Moon"? What should i now use on Windows XP? I'm confused. 🐨

UXP is newer one,  basilisk/UXP shares engine with upcoming PaleMoon 28.

moebius is older attempt to make a base for PaleMoon 28 with sightly newer Gecko engine(53a1) than UXP(52ESR), which is now deprecated and efforts on this are ported to UXP.
