Those are nice, but how about explaining what each one actually does? That way we could choose the ones we want, or re-tweak them to better fit our own systems.

I usually use the tweak set from nLite, which comes with brief descriptions, and some visual and functional tweaks such as classic theme for the system account of the shut down event tracker to get an extra safety prompt. But those do not affect performance directly.

XP absolutely needs to have the networking settings tweaked for performance. I use a registry file for that, because it is quicker to just double-click it and be done with it, rather than drag sliders around in TCP Optimizer. No harm comes from settings that have no effect on the particular OS version.

Where can I find this nLite set ... I'd like to read the 'brief descriptions' ? ... and maybe try the tweaks, I may already have the tweaks in place but maybe not all.

I thought everyone on this board knew what nLite was. It is a tool for customizing a new Windows installation image. One of the last steps consists of a long page of registry tweaks.

Maybe there is a misunderstanding.

I know perfectly what nlite is and where to find it.

I don't know where to find the "tweak set" for nlite you are referring to, presuming that you are not referring to the generic list of available tweaks in nlite, but rather to a "pre-set" where  each option is set or unset.

BTW - this is a long time pet peeve of mine - nlite has so many options and settings (some not fully documented or easily understandable) that is almost impossible to create two times a "same" build without using a saved configuration, every time someone posts "I did it with nlite" the question is not about the tool used (nlite) but rather about the "it".

Almost everything I post here is a thank you, a tribute, an attempt to cooperate in some way. To add my grain of sand. For my use Serpent works great. I don't need it to be perfect. I just need it to be functional. I thought I would share a trick that has been useful to me and that I discovered recently.

Always trying to improve the performance of XP, I check the hacks pages from time to time and I found this one. Since I applied it the applications started to launch at the speed of light. Almost instantly. If you haven't tried it yet, I recommend it. I also applied several other tricks from that same page with success. But none of them left me so amazed. I wish I had discovered it years ago! lol Hope you enjoy it.
