Notifications Buildup

I asked about this maybe two years ago ... any way to clean out the growing Notifications area. There was nothing two years ago, has this changed in any way?

... maybe there has been a fix of some sort ... do they 'drop off' after a certain period of time, maybe a year. I don't seem to have as many as I thought. Just checked and they go back into 2016. I thought I also had some from 2015.

I never really looked into the notifications archive. There doesn't seem to be a way to selectively prune old notification, at least per user.
