The latest version of putty (https://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/putty/latest.html) does not run in XP. However, it works applying patchPE to the exes. Except for pageant, that in this latest and the previous version generates an error.

I can't make it work with onedrive, but works fine with googledrive, and (last I tried, a year ago) with dropbox among otehrs. http://rei.to/carotdav_en.html

dmiranda, thank you for that. It didn't solve my all problems but it may a great milestone for my research motivation after than. I tried now and it's still working with Google Drive as you said. I have Amazon, Icloud and one more local service. Can't try with others in CarotDAV menu. Amazon and Icloud, no success unfortunately. Btw, maybe after some try-fail it may work with Google IMAP but till now i can't do it. (tried ports 993 or 465 or more but no way)

Still, that little software which seems from 90's (favorite times of web for me) a good catch. Thanks again.

Audacium 3.0.4 a fork of Audacity is back ported to Windows XP. It can be downloaded here - A Windows XP backport of Audacium 3.0.4, a fork of the audio editor Audacity.

Just happen to be using it today and have recorded 3 [The Pennsylvania Polka - Special Recording from up here in Maine - TNT Recordings] - [The Matador - also TNT Recordings] - [Tennessee Hoedown - also TNT] from my vinyl collection into mp3s (you'll need lame.enc.dll to export to mp3 and I'll upload it here). I find 2.1.0 was the most stable and no installation and I use mp3 gain back end 1.4.6 to make make sure the volume on all songs are equal, but, however, keep in mind each time it compresses the heck out of file and reduced the quality.

I might upload the song files another time in case anybody would like to also enjoy as they are now public domain.

PS: How can I just clear and remove all my old attachments I've uploaded in the past? They are so old and I'd like to clear up some space. For some reason I can't seem to find where to do it.

While being logged in, load:

Tick the box in the far right on the attachments you want to delete, then click the trashcan icon; beware: can't be undone

Your original posts where the deleted attachments used to be in will now have empty placeholders (in the case of images...) ;)

Mplayer, smplayer, mpv:

On 8/18/2021 at 9:09 AM, dmiranda said:

Last version of smplayer in XP seems to be 21.1.0.0 shipping (as in current noncompatible smplayer version) mplayer 1.3.0.0 - mplayer 1.4 doesn't seem to run on XP.

The latest (22.2) build for smplayer (https://www.smplayer.info/en/downloads) is working now in XP (portable at https://www.fosshub.com/SMPlayer.html?dwl=smplayer-portable-22.2.0.0-win32-qt5.6.7z). . This 22.2 build went back to use mplayer versioned 1.3.0.0, which used to run only files, not (dvd) directories - but now runs both, but with a green screen, in my set up-.

However,  https://oss.netfarm.it/mplayer/ has a buid of the latest binary of mplayer for windows (search for "Build selection table" and select your build) that, replacing smplayer's mplayer 1.3 version, works well, although there is plenty of glitches/strange stuff happening until the movie starts, but it starts, running the vob files one by one with a small gap between them. Nevertheless, the version of mplayer reported in netfarm is 0.0.90, which I cannot quite understand. It plays, so no complain, but I wonder if anyone knows why this version difference.

Note that the MPV version built into it does not run in XP, and I wonder why is still there. Still, the latest version that runs can be found in  https://sourceforge.net/projects/smplayer/files/SMPlayer/17.3.0/ ).

FFMPEG: I have been using the build by one of our own, at https://rwijnsma.home.xs4all.nl/files/ffmpeg/?C=M&O=D

However, there is at least one other (more) recent alternative build that seems to work in XP at https://sourceforge.net/projects/mplayer-win32/files/FFmpeg/.

I wonder if any one has tried it and cares to comment differences.

Sphinx Windows 10 Firewall Control XP 7.5 is the last working version in Windows XP. There are two interesting versions:
The free version Windows 10 Firewall Control XP Free 7.5
https://www.sphinx-soft.com/download/W10FC7.5/Windows10FirewallControlFree-XP-Setup.exe
and the paid Plus version Windows 10 Firewall Control XP Plus 7.5:
https://www.sphinx-soft.com/download/W10FC7.5/Windows10FirewallControlPlus-XP-Setup.exe
The paid Plus version is definitely worth its money. I use it for years and for me it is the best firewall solution in Windows XP. Here is a link from December of 2015 where you can compare the Free and the Plus version:
https://web.archive.org/web/20151229143305/https://www.sphinx-soft.com/Vista/order.html
A key for Windows 10 Firewall Control XP Plus has to be requested by contacting the support because it is no longer offered officially. I mention this due to the circumstance that a regular key doesn't work with the XP version.

Registry Editors

Registrar Registry Manager 9.20 is a registry editor which is still supported in Windows XP. Hompage: https://www.resplendence.com/registrar
There is a Free Home Edition
https://www.resplendence.com/download/RegistrarHomeV9.exe
and a commercial Professional Edition.

My favourite registry editor is Registry Workshop (current version is 5.0.1). Link: http://www.torchsoft.com/en/rw_information.html
It is still supported in Windows XP, but it's commercial. This program is definitely worth its money. You can try it 30 days for free. Here is a download link of the English version 5.0.1 (other language versions are available):

I don't have access to an XP machine or VM right now, but it was mentioned that minGW x86 may work on XP SP3, though not officially supported

(For what it's worth, two forks of Famitracker, 0cc-famitracker and Dn-Famitracker, do work on both x86 and x64 XP). DefleMask Legacy (32bit) runs on both too

Hey there, I have some old cassette recordings I want to digitalize and am wondering how to do that. I thought of connecting headphone (in walkman -laf, aren't we old) to mic in PC. Would audacity work? Any ideas? Thanks!

Asus Xonar has analogue inputs and its software runs on XP. Ordinary 3.5 mm jacks.

Windows XP misses the GetTickCount64 function but if you just hexedit it to GetTickCount then the program seems to work just fine on XP.

Tested with furnace version 0.5.8 (win32)
