According to information at VideoHelp.com, it appears that starting with PotPlayerSetup-1.7.19955-ads.exe the installer is Ad-Supported.

On XP, this is not a problem, because the installer still does not work, you need to unzip files using 7-zip.

It's a pain to do a reinstallation and set it all up again if not.

... A pain? In what way?:dubbio:

Re-installing on top of an existing installation should leave the app's settings intact, AFAIAA; if the app is "properly" installed, then all (custom) settings are stored in the registry; the GUI of the app provides a very handy feature to export its settings as a .reg file, which can be imported (merged) later, after a new (re-)installation, to restore the player's settings like before:

Another scenario is if you're using a "portable" installation, where you selected the setting "Store settings into .ini file":

In that case, you only have to back-up that .ini file (in my case, it's PotPlayerMini.ini, but I'm on Vista...) found in the "installation" folder, to be put back in place after a new (re-)installation...

So, me thinks you're just exaggerating... :D

Best wishes :)

Some Games that had a long run on XP:

Combat Mission games from https://www.battlefront.com
Their games do no longer work on XP since the last update CMFI v2.10 from a few days ago. It is the updated executable wrapping DRM that is probabaly the cause of this. All earlier releases and patches work on XP. Does OpenGL rendering.

SpringRTS / Spring Engine
Needs like four parts to get going: Lobby + Engine + Game + Maps. Also does OpenGL rendering.

For Windows XP 32-bit I recommend this one:
Lobby: https://springlobby.info/windows/springlobby-0.252-win32.zip ( Can use latest one with a hex edit, but that is not really needed )
Engine: http://zero-k.info/engine/win32/104.0.1-409-g07c2800.zip from April 2018
Game: Balanced Annihilation v10.11 from https://springfiles.com
Maps: Any from https://springfiles.com
Single player opponent AI: "RAI"

Actually one can still play the latest maintenance release Spring engine 104.0.1-1455-g39f8fbd by replacing libcurl.dll with one that is compiled to run on Windows XP ( http://zero-k.info/Forum/Thread/27897 ). But then one is also forced to use Balanced Annihilation v10.24, and then AFAIK "Shard" is the only working single player AI. And that AI seems to eat up more RAM then Windows XP can handle.

That was a challenge to figure out...

@Sampei.Nihira
Regarding SumatraPDF-prerelease-11495.exe (portable)
Seems to work once you edit the version check in the PE header: Two bytes changed soon after marker "PE" 06 .. 06 to 05 .. 05.

Yep, whenever the error is "this is not a valid Win32 applicarion" it is worth to try this, though sometimes it is needed to change also the "Minor" OperatingSystem and Sybsystem fields though 5 0 5 0 is OK,

https://www.virtualbox.org/wiki/Changelog-6.1#v0

"Linux host: Drop PCI passthrough, the current code is too incomplete. Not useful."

So the dream of GPU passthrough from Linux host to Windows guest (like XP) on a dual GPU system ends here.
The code was incomplete and bugged and has been like that for years, but rather than improving it, they dropped it.
This marks 6 years of unsuccessful project.
Congratulations Oracle... -.-
