Issues with Printer/Scanner-Combo

Hi Guys, I have a Lexmark 1130 Printer/Scanner-Combo. Drivers are installed and the device manager does not show any problems !!
I only use it to scan so the printer is not installed. Through the years whenever I wanted to scan the app complained about that but scanned anyway !!

- When I just pre-scan everything is fine.

But trying to do a real scan causes a crash.

SPOOL32 führte eine ungültige Anweisung in

After that the scanning starts and is successful but all printers are gone. Clicking on the printer folder freezes the OS.

I tried different versions of spool32.exe and also de-installing KernelEx !! Trying to now install the printer causes the same problems.
Does anyone maybe know what could be wrong ??

It so happens that in house I have a X1130, a X1150 and a X1190. First one was the X1150 and worked fine for printing but scanner used to corrupt the image with random black vertical lines. Replaced it with X1130 which scans fine but has no usable ink cartridges. Never tested the X1190 that I found on the curb.

Now, my memory being hazy I can't remember what happened back when I first installed the drivers but I have a feeling the downloadable package from the official site may not have worked well. Fortunately I have an original driver CD and I think that's what is installed since. Do you have an original driver CD for the X1100 series and did you try to install those drivers? Do you have an alternative driver package that you tried installing?
Here's my files with versions and their KernelEx compatibility settings:

SPOOL32.EXE v4.10.1998 (original from Win98SE), disabled KernelEx
WINSPOOL.DRV v4.10.1998 (original from Win98SE), default KEx compatibility
SPOOLSS.DLL v4.10.1998 (original from Win98SE), default compatibility
LEXBCE.DLL v8.29, default compatibility
LEXLMPM.DLL v8.29, default compatibility
LMABK2PP.DLL v1.0, default compatibility
LXBKPP32.DLL v2.0.2.2, default compatibility
(the above are only Lexmark-related files loaded by spool32.exe, there may be much more on the system)

At startup there are two executables that run automatically (unless manually disabled):
lxbkbmgr.exe v0.1.1.1, default compatibility
lexstart.exe v8.29, default compatibility

However, please note that I also have a laser printer from Lexmark installed on the same system, an E352dn connected only through LAN not USB so it's possible some files belong to it or got upgraded.

The driver installer also adds certain entries in WIN.INI:
- under [Devices]:
Lexmark X1100 Series=lxbkpr,USB001
- under [PrinterPorts]:
Lexmark X1100 Series=lxbkpr,USB001,15,45

That's about all I can do for now.

Hi Drugwash, thank you for the infos. I tried/tested various things but unfortunately nothing helped.
Does anyone maybe know what the difference is between a pre-scan and a real scan ??
I mean, shouldn't the same files/dlls been used ?   Thx, MiKl

A preview performs a quick scan, most likely at a very low resolution, because it's being performed really fast compared to a real scan at 300, 600 or 1200dpi (yeah, I've done that too!) However, after the preview the software halts. Whereas on a real scan the image data, which is consistently larger, is being sent to an image-processing application chosen by the user but not before being saved as a bitmap in My Pictures.
Therefore there may be a problem with the saving of the file to HDD (not enough space? bad bitmap filter? something else?) or with the application supposed to load and display the image (not existing? corrupted installation? bad settings?).
There may also be a (GDI?) problem due to a system file mismatch (any unofficial system files update?).
And as far as I know, the Lexmark scanner spawns a peculiar rtlxxx.exe file (forgot its real name) located in the Temp folder that may well be a virus (long time ago I read something about such virus file) or just an unfortunate name clash, so if you have a resident antivirus you might want to temporarily disable it while scanning.
No other ideas so far.
