Last versions of software for Windows Vista and Windows Server 2008

AMD Radeon Stoney Ridge and related processors (as in all the ones listed in the Windows 7 graphics driver) now has a Vista compatible graphics driver, which means Windows Vista will work, even on AMD's bought in 2019 provided they are based on Stoney Ridge or related processors. It does require Extended Kernel, but unfortunately, it is not quite ready for release yet, and I'm just Beta testing it. The developer is hoping to release it real soon, so please watch here for when it is released. You can see the driver in action here: http://windowsenthusiasts1.epizy.com/images/AMD2.JPG

Haven't been here for several months.

Dunno if anyone noticed this but Dolphin (Wii and GameCube emulator) dropped Windows 7, 8 and 8.1 support. The post has no support status mentioning on Windows Vista but potentially any future builds won't work on the system anymore. https://dolphin-emu.org/blog/2022/06/09/leaving-a-legend/

Edit: Alright I'm digging through a little bit and found out that last supported master build of Dolphin (Qt-based) that runs on Windows Vista x64 is dolphin-master-5.0-8253-x64. Any Qt-based builds (Dolphin.exe) came after that does not work on Windows Vista x64 any longer, as the next available master build dolphin-master-5.0-8255-x64 was updated to Qt 5.11.1. https://dolphin-emu.org/download/list/master/166/

Last master build that includes a wxWidgets-based DolphinWx.exe which is always working on Windows Vista x64 is dolphin-master-5.0-8277-x64. Any builds after that should get DolphinWx.exe removed, starting from dolphin-master-5.0-8279-x64. https://dolphin-emu.org/download/list/master/165/

I don't have any actual games tested as it would takes a lot of time for me and my VM storage is running low.

More to mention...

Last Visual C++ redistributable install-able on Windows Vista is Visual C++ Redistributable for Visual Studio 2022 (version 17.0), file version 14.30.30378. Version 17.2 and 17.3 (file version 14.32.31332) won't install on Windows Vista without modifications of installer file. So Vista users need to download from here: https://my.visualstudio.com/Downloads/

Well this is better than Windows XP support as it was stopped at one point of 2019 according to Microsoft. https://learn.microsoft.com/en-US/cpp/windows/latest-supported-vc-redist?view=msvc-170

I may or may not have found a workaround to installing UC Browser on Windows Vista. Of course, it's dated to 2017. But, it appears Alibaba discontinued the web browser for PC. Interestingly, I could not find an offline installer.

But, I guess this browser along with possibly Yandex browser might be the only post-Chrome 49 Chromium options for Windows that may not send data back- probably not worth the risk though.

It applies to both versions. My ole32.dll version is 6.0.6003.21761, modified on October 11, 2022.

Also in my previous post, I said this...

So except if Vista EK already supports this call, the last version that can run is v8.4.6.

Which basically means I tested without the Extended Kernel. Maybe I wasn't clear enough in my previous post, but what I wanted to underline is that versions 8.4.7 and later will require the Extended Kernel, or Notepad++ will crash.

I am on Vista SP2 32-bit (build 6.0.6003) for which, as you might know, there's no Extended Kernel (yet?) :( , and I can confirm that Notepad++ v8.4.7 [32-bit x86] has become Vista-incompatible, for the reason outlined above by @AstragonQC :

Did you try to just replace the hell out of it with CFF Explorer ?

64 Bit and i have the latest Extended Kernel, and update to november 2022

It was clear from your screenshot showing Windows 6.1 being spoofed that you have Extended Kernel. This particular thread was never about software that works with Extended Kernel, but good to know it solves Notepad++ compatibility.

Okay, mystery solved. I was hoping a compatible Ole32.dll update had been found.

Clicking on "Pl" in DW sorts by missing API. Are any others missing?

"Fail to load", not "crash". A program must first load and then start running before it can crash.

Sorry all for the brief hiatus from continuing the work on the list. I've been swamped at work lately (Christmas time - which means hundreds of packages to deliver every day ) I will try my best to work on the list when possible this month, but I probably won't be able to do much until January when "peak season" (as we refer to it at the USPS) is over. Thank you all for understanding, and Happy Holidays, everyone! :)
