How to Move Details Pane to Bottom without Memory Patching [Win10]

the issue could just be that your download link for signature bypass files is broken.

I used the file I already had that I found on bigmuscle's site

My wallpaper is black when choosing aero2 even though the wallpaper in aero2.theme points to the same img0.jpg file as the default Aero theme....not sure if that tells us something.

How many, if any, of these steps would need to be repeated if a Windows Update broke something?

If there would be next big update pack like November update or a specific update for user interface then probably we'd lose custom visual style support as this is what happens most commonly. Also, there is a possibility that Microsoft would edit default visual style so perhaps the only thing that could be saved would be a modified shellstyle.dll since it isn't modified commonly. Everything else would have to be re-done. By the way, before big updates I recommend switching to default VS just in case something gets updated in UI.

I fixed the link. Wallpaper sometimes gets black for me too but this doesn't make a difference as a new one can be set.

Still no dice for me. I can choose the Aero2 theme and it takes a little longer to switch to that theme than the built-in themes...but details pane is still on the right.

Could it be my shellstyle file isn't right?

Here it is if you want to take a look

I tested your shellstyle.dll file, it's modified correctly. The problem is with custom visual style support. Try re-downloading .DLL file from bigmuscle's page (unless you've the newest one already), I updated the link. Check carefully if you followed first five steps from my second tutorial correctly. You could also check 7th step, I made it more clear. Also upload your “aerolite.msstyles” folder into an archive (include “aero2.theme” file too).

Okay, I checked the steps and don't see anything I didn't do correctly. I tried to overwrite the bypass file at C: with the one I downloaded from your link and Windows said it couldn't because the file was currently in use by Winlogon and it showed the Publisher as Big Muscle Company which makes me think that bypass hack is working properly. That is the same site I downloaded the bypass file from just a few hours before you posted your last tutorial.

So here is my aerolite.msstyles folder and the theme file

Thank you for your help!

aero2.theme file was modified incorrectly. Download mine and place it into %windir%\Resources\Themes\. Also, make sure that “aerolite.msstyles“ folder is inside %windir%\Resources\Themes\aero.

Hope that you know that this still requires that you have OldNewExplorer installed to work.

Just got Win10 finally.

Is this mod compatible with QTTabbar? I don't want to screw up a new machine.

It's compatible, I don't know why it shall not be. I'm using both at the moment.

Wow thanks @MDJ! I look forward to it whenever you get the chance to fix the tutorial. I'm sure it'll help many others too.

Hey, thank you for your patience! It's been a long week of work but now it's finally a weekend so I finally sit at my PC and fixed the problem! Here's an updated tutorial:

How to Move Details Pane to Bottom on Windows 10 without Memory Patching and shell32.dll Modifying

(This was made possible by MrGRiM's modified version of shellstyle.dll of his VS.)

  • First of all, download modified UI files combined into one resource file: http://1drv.ms/1JRyFKq .
  • In File Explorer, open the folder where all of the visual styles are available by default on Windows: %windir%\Resources\Themes.
  • Navigate to the visual style's you want to modify parent folder (the only one by default is “aero”). Then navigate to: Shell >> NormalColor.
  • Open shellstyle.dll with Resource Hacker.
  • Open MUI section and delete resource you'll find there by Ctrl + D
  • Open SHELL32_UIFILE section and delete every resource from it by Ctrl + D (please, be careful and stop when the last resource from this section gets deleted and whole section disappears).
  • In the Menu Bar choose Action >> Add from a Resource file (<...>) and navigate to the .RES file you downloaded at the beginning. Choose it.
  • In the opened dialog mark Check/Uncheck checkbox and click Import button.
  • Save modified shellstyle.dll somewhere easily reached and then replace the unmodified version of it (before doing this, make sure to make a backup of the unmodified version).
  • Change visual style to the default one and then choose the VS you've just modified. Details Pane shall now be on bottom.

Hello

Thanks for this

I do not have a "SHELL32_UIFILE" section in shellstyle.dll

If I understand, in shellstyle.dll, I delete the MUI section and I add the SHELL32_UIFILE section (downloaded with your link) in shellstyle.dll ?

Thanks for your help

EDIT: its' good :)

First of all, thanks for this excellent tutorial! As of now, everything works fine.

Question 1 : Can I get the default Windows 10 status bar back (while keeping the Details pane at the bottom) ?

After installing OldNewExplorer and following your tutorial I got this : http://i.imgur.com/azY4jKS.png

I want this : http://i.imgur.com/mxO83HF.png

Question 2 : Is there a way to get rid of the "Availability" section in the Details pane?

I want to get rid of this : http://i.imgur.com/EvrKry2.png

and this : http://i.imgur.com/FVumgd8.png

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

I see that some people have trouble getting the desired result so maybe I can be of some help.

My goal was to move the Details pane to the bottom by editing the original Windows 10 theme (Windows 10 x64, as of today - all updates installed, no patched files, no custom themes, etc. , ..., i.e. an untouched Windows 10).

I managed to do so by following the original tutorial : http://www.msfn.org/board/topic/175131-how-to-move-details-pane-to-bottom-without-memory-patching-win10/?do=findComment&comment=1115926

I didn't have to use the more complicated approach described here : http://www.msfn.org/board/topic/175131-how-to-move-details-pane-to-bottom-without-memory-patching-win10/?do=findComment&comment=1116650

Some guidelines :

  • Before doing any step of the tutorial, install OldNewExplorer
  • Follow the tutorial steps until you have two steps left (i.e. step 9 and 10 i.e. 9th and 10th bulletin point). After you saved a copy of the modified shellstyle.dll somewhere on your computer but before replacing the unmodified version, do the following:
    • make a backup copy of the unmodified version
    • take ownership of the original unmodified version (in my case : "C:\Windows\Resources\Themes\aero\Shell\NormalColor\shellstyle.dll") - the easiest way to do so is adding a "Take Ownership" option to the Win10 context menu - see here: http://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/3841-take-ownership-add-context-menu-windows-10-a.html
    • before you replace the unmodified version with the modified shellstyle.dll, change your theme to a High Contrast Theme : http://i.imgur.com/o5T5vAF.png
    • replace the unmodified shellstyle.dll with the modified shellstyle.dll
    • change your theme back to the one your try to modify (in my case: High Contrast Theme -> Aero Theme)
    • restart your computer and you are done!

Hi,

It's June 2016 and maybe that's the reason of time, that any of OneDrive links, that were present in this topic is working. No matter in Edge or Firefox, if I am logged in to OneDrive or not... Can I ask for reuploading the files, required for permanent moving of details pane to the bottom? I would suggest speedyshare.com or dropbox...

Thanks in advance.

Hi,

I just signed up here to post this. On July the link doesn't work as mentioned by the previous poster. Can the OP or someone else who has the files, upload them somewhere where we can get them to start with?

Thanks

Caution! Before following up the steps note that OldNewExplorer must still be present. The tutorial here lets Details Pane on bottom function to be more stable as usually memory patching can be easily altered by the system.

  • First of all, download modified UI files combined into one resource file: http://1drv.ms/1JRyFKq .
  • In File Explorer, open the folder where all of the visual styles are available by default on Windows: %windir%\Resources\Themes.

OldNewExplorer is very unstable, and I often need to restart explorer.exe manully...

Would you please send the UI files again? The OneDrive sharing is unavailable... Thanks!
