Well done. :thumbup

Next steps:

1) Add to SYSTEM.INI [386Enh] MaxPhysPage=3E6FF (or change value accordingly if the entrance already exists).

2) Change in HDACFG.INI SleepingWidget=$03 Output Widget=$03 and VolumeWidget=$06

3) Add to HDACFG.INI

[BUSMASTER]
myPCIHI=$3E82
myPCILO=$0000
myPCI=$3E820000
aPCIHI=$3E81
aPCILO=$0000
aPCI=$3E810000

Please reboot TWICE and listen with headphones during boot for the slightest click or plop.

Please attach latest HDACFG.INI and HDALOG.TXT.

No audio is coming out of the speakers

HDAcfg.ini HDA.txt

If it already exists, do we use the higher or lower of the two values? (Are we trying to increase or limit this system setting?)

@jumper: the lower of the two values.

Without HDATSR.EXE there must be some memory left, "out of the reach of Windows" (for the DMA buffer). Tested on Windows 98se, total memory limited to 1GB with HimemX.

@~♥Aiko♥Chan♥~: your codec is still not detected, how much memory shows Device Manager?

Windows ME system shows "999.9MB" of RAM with the setting you told me to use. My D600 has 1gb physical ram.

On an unrelated note, I keep getting a Runtime 20 error that causes Windows ME to crash and reset...not sure how to fix it:(

@~♥Aiko♥Chan♥~: your memory settings are as expected. About the Runtime error you reported (202, not 20 isn't it?), it's definitive related to HDA2.DLL.

You can try extreme low Vcache settings first. Boot in Safe Mode and set in SYSTEM.INI

[Vcache]

MinFileCache=1024

MaxFileCache=1024

If after reboot HDACFG.INI has been changed, please attach file together with HDALOG.TXT.

Looked through MSFN forums to find this that claims to support "ICH7 chipsets 945/946/975/955/31/41." Although, I have no idea if Lone's chipset drivers are superior.

My INF files cover these chipsets plus many newer ones. I did get some of the original inspiration from xRayer's work though.. discovered the "drivers" are just INF files, so then it was easy to port the data to a 9x-compatible INF.

I can confirm a 945GMA video driver exists for Windows 98 :):thumbup This driver has to be installed manually via the device manager because the program contains an artificial OS block.:buehehe:

Are you sure those drivers are working under Windows ME? Can you test any 3D Games with DirectX/OpenGL? I only see Win2000 drivers and no VXD files there...

Sure, after I fix the audio driver. Please suggest a program! I was thinking maybe getting out an old copy of the Typing of the Dead

So far, I think the Vcache fix works  haven't had another runtime error. I'm going to try installing DirectX now to see if that will help the audio driver.

Also, is anyone capable of modifying wireless drivers like PROBLEMCHYLD? He managed to modify a Broadcom wireless card to work on Windows 9x. The card would previously install but gave errors that did not allow it to work. That's the case with my current wireless driver for 9x. I'm pretty sure it can be modded to work.

After looking at my audio hardware ID, I'm starting to wonder if HDA will work for it or not...

Try Need For Speed Underground Demo https://www.gamepressure.com/download.asp?ID=3950

I will try that and these games eventually: Mall Tycoon III, The House of the Dead 3, Oregon Trail 2. Maybe not soon though, just put the XP hard drive back and don't wanna have to transfer again. It's a bit of a hassle for the 40gb drive because there's no tab to pull out.

Ever since Lenovo bought IBM the notebooks have just got worst.  T43 was the last real thinkpad.  And IBM always had good docking stations like selectadoc II and  III, I have one of those for my 770x and it has 3 PCI and ISA slots and my T43 I have a Dock II that has a PCI slot.  Can just install a sound blaster in those and game like a champ,  I got a voodoo 2 and a AWE64 gold in my 770x laptop.

I just realized...I'm having Windows ME boot without a third party AHCI driver:huh: I didn't even change the settings in BIOS to legacy mode.

The device manager of source mentions the missing SATA driver, but...how is this even possible?

You booted in compatibility mode. Windows uses the BIOS to access the Hard Drives in this mode. Hard Disk access speed is severely reduced and some functions may not work.

You will need to switch to Legacy Mode or use my AHCI Driver.
