you can butcher up the OS a bit

dunno if NTlite allows on the fly crap removal, that would be only way if you'd compare what Pro vs Ult doesn't have

 

but AFAIK Ultimate is Pro + few more "features"

 

another way, but this is only what I would do, is direct brutal job

copy over from PE, whole Windows folder of Pro over ultimate

and then re-apply new key

 

but you're always best to try it in VM 1st

There was some registry hack that could be done in the Preview versions that would allow you to change the edition from Ultimate to Pro or Home Premium (RTM i guess). It was basically a way to trick Setup into allowing an in-place upgrade to be permitted.

 

I can definately think of valid reasons for doing this type of thing, but at a risk of potential system instability.

Remember the old trick to 'downgrade' Windows 7 Enterprise?? Well, many people still need to downgrade their edition of Windows 8 (don't ask me why ). I posted a manual way a couple of days ago. Then I was thinking to make app to make the job easier & the result is UpDown8. It is a very handy tool to do the job. Just choose the edition you want to upgrade/downgrade offline. Then insert the installation media & do a 'Upgrade' ~ Done!!!
