Ridrok
Hello, I needed Visual Studio 2015, then I did install VS2015 Pro.What a surprise when I discovered that after the reboot my Win 8.1 was as chatty as a Win 10 can be!!! So I removed it along with patches added at the same time and my Win 8.1 is nearly clean again. That's it, I lost my trust in MS for good. Back to April state about patches on my Win 7 and 8.1 systems, and disabled Win Update for good on all of them. Win 7/8.1 + Office 2010 + VS2013 is my final choice for coming years in regard to MS products. Some log from my squid running transparent on my linux router after I installed VS2015 (yes I have some filters in place):[Fri Sep 18 13:44:04 2015].073 0 192.168.10.1 TCP_DENIED/403 3923 POST http://dmd.metaservices.microsoft.com/dms/metadata.svc - HIER_NONE/- text/html[Fri Sep 18 13:44:04 2015].139 64 192.168.10.1 TCP_MISS/302 331 POST http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/? Tripredacus
Certainly this one is ok?http://winaero.com/updates/opaquet.txtAnd a bad choice of naming, this domain used by MSSE/Defender: spynet2.microsoft.com.
Ridrok
Yes, I was mainly talking about watson.telemetry, vortex.data, sqm.telemetry and dmd.metaservices and many go.microsoft.com/fwlinkwinaero.com is fine yes, it's used by opaque taskbar application. NoelC
See this: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/31452435/how-do-i-disable-vshub-exe-in-the-system-tray/32282345#32282345 Also, have you considered using Visual Studio 2015 Community Edition? It's free and quite capable. -Noel Edited September 18, 2015 by NoelC
Ridrok
Well, it probably contains also all these spy in it since PRO version is for companies and supposed to have less if any. But, I cleaned my 3 PC running Win 7 and 8.1 from patches after April so that I don't have to chase and block these spywares, not too add another program that add them back. NoelC
Read the link I put up. No communications attempts are made after those components are blocked from running- and that's with VS 2015 Community Edition. Try not to overgeneralize; not every part of the software is bad. -Noel Edited September 19, 2015 by NoelC
osRe
More and more of Microsoft's stuff is becoming a hassle. So which updates are responsible? Edited September 19, 2015 by shae
bphlpt
Read the link I put up. No communications attempts are made after those components are blocked from running- and that's with VS 2015 Community Edition. Did you lose any functionality at all? Such as was found by some of the commentators to the suggestion to simply delete the VsHub folder such as the ability to display performance information about the running process during debugging.Another suggestion by Frederik, below yours, suggested "blocking instantiation with your Anti Virus", but I'm not sure I understand exactly what that means or how to do that. Do you? ( I would ask at stackoverflow, but I don't have enough points there to comment on another person's answer, yet. ) Would this accomplish the same thing as your suggestion, or could it be used in addition for another layer of protection? Cheers and Regards
NoelC
Regarding loss of performance info while debugging... Windows symbols load okay from online symbol servers (provided i allow the addresses through the firewall).I'm able to do source code breakpoints.I can see the call stack and watch variables.I get little elapsed time notes on screen when I step through the code. I've noticed no loss of function so far, but I am but an egg regarding doing performance measurement in Visual Studio as I rely on some pretty sophisticated instrumentation and logging built into the code itself for that. The reason I chose to try to read- and execute-protect the code vs. delete the folder is so that a future update might have a chance of working. But probably an installer would still balk at the way I've protected the folders. So it will likely be an ongoing hassle no matter what way you do it. Yes, I'd prefer a "high privacy" setting available in the Options. But alas, that's not the way of the future. Edit: Blocking instantiation probably refers to some kind of blocking of executables, possibly by process name. I've no experience with that, but it seems to me someone else mentioned something like it in a recent thread on privacy here. -Noel Edited September 19, 2015 by NoelC
