And?

I just removed those bold sentences because there is no beta to download. When there is, this information will be back.

Sure :), but the OP has Windows 10 and even if he hadn't read (or understood due to the conflicting info with the other pages) the page of the guide, he should have had a look at the page:

http://glass8.eu/win_future.html

which was titled "Windows 10 TH2" and now is (IMHO senselessly) renamed to "Windows TH2" and immediately run away, scared by the bold parts.

Hence my post with the "unexpectedly" comment, anyone reading it today would come to the conclusion that I was completely crazy or disconnected from facts (and whilst the first may have some grounds , the second can be easily proved false).

In a nutshell this thread is about failures  :w00t::ph34r: :

  1. failure by the OP in reading and/or understanding the complexity of the installation and the tool being reserved to "advanced users" ONLY
  2. failure by both me and cmdshft in highlighting how some parts of the tool limitations and difficulties are actually not clearly exposed to the public
  3. failure by you to receive any of the above criticism/observations and/or provide any mitigation to the problems listed

Sorry, but this title wasn't change today but already several days ago. Anyway, Windows 10 TH2 or Windows TH2 makes no difference, only total ignorant can think that "versions for future Windows updates" means "version for current Windows".

Sorry, but this title wasn't change today but already several days ago.

Well, at the time I posted post #4 above:

Posted 31 August 2015 - 09:09 PM

I read on that page the bolded parts exactly as I quoted them from the earlier Wayback Machine shapshot and that page WAS titled "Windows 10".

That is not "several days ago".

Here are (until they last) a couple google cache:

http://webcache.googleusercontent.com/search?client=opera&q=cache:t4VUwDLfErcJ:http://www.glass8.eu/win_future.html%2Bhttp://glass8.eu/win_future.html&oe=utf-8&channel=suggest&gws_rd=cr,ssl&hl=it&&ct=clnk

taken on 31 August 2015 in the evening and I am attaching a screenshot of them, just in case.

As said, I may well be totally nuts but I am usually rather accurate when I state something.

Anyway, Windows 10 TH2 or Windows TH2 makes no difference, only total ignorant can think that "versions for future Windows updates" means "version for current Windows".

And again, if there is a page titled "Windows 10" or "Windows 10 TH2" it is IMHO likely that the average user (ignorant or not) who is running Windows 10 (the sheer fact that he/she is running Windows 10 might actually - according to a few people  - automatically categorize the user as ignorant BTW) may click on it, whilst the same won't probably happen if the 10 is removed from it.

Hi!

You might want to at least sticky MDJ's post that jaclaz linked to (http://www.msfn.org/board/topic/174355-aero-glass-for-win81-14/?p=1107168), it's exactly what new users like johne53 and I would want to see when looking for information about symbol files.

About the instructions... The guide is comprehensive enough in explaining how the software uses symbols and what they are, but the link to Microsoft could be accompanied by those couple of lines from MDJ's post. And it definitely wouldn't hurt to have a reminder on the front page or downloads to "remember to check the guide", even if it should be obvious to the user. As long as there are direct download links on the front page, no mention of possibly not working out of the box, and no link to the guide, you shouldn't be too judgemental when accusing users of ignorance when they are surprised that the program doesn't work.

By the way, in the guide, you recommend that unless the reader knows technical jargon and how to edit the registry they shouldn't install this program. Still, you recommend the installer which means that no registry editing is probably necessary, and the only techical terms in MDJ's mini-guide are download, BAT file, copy and paste. It really isn't that hard or technical, provided that the information is available to the user in the first place.

With small additions like these to the instructions, the process of getting the software up and running would be a lot easier for many people. Which would in turn mean more donations when users want to get rid of the watermark, after the user has seen that the software works. Even if the purpose is just educational, you probably wouldn't be opposed to that :) And I don't mean to bash your work, bigmuscle, it's really cool, but all this comes across as a lot more difficult than it is.
