Aero Glass for Win8.1+ 1.4

Recommended Posts

Download Classic Theme restorer for FF, then under Toolbars (2) click Tab/menu/tabs toolbar: remove background color (Windows 10). I would also recommend Tab Mix plus to change the color of the tab titles since it can be hard to read with aero on. 868b61792d.jpg

Thanks.

As for tab backgrounds I recommend using this.

Things are always going to be broken in pre-release builds (not that they should be, but I'm going from past experience).  And Big Muscle has explicitly stated that the release of Aero Glass doesn't work with them.

hi, i got an error after logged in.

win 10 x64

This seems to have started after the latest updates (one of KB3081448, KB3081449, KB3081452) which has likely updated the dwm files. Either I am doing something wrong with symchk (if so if anyone has any advice on downloading symbols that would be great) or the newer symbols aren't available yet on the symbol server.

So far aeroglass still seems to be working ok for me despite the message.

EDIT:

Ok I managed to get this working by reinstalling "Debugging Tools for Windows", opening a command prompt, navigating to the debugging tools folder ("C:\Program Files\Debugging Tools for Windows (x64)" in my case) and using:

symchk c:\windows\system32\dwmcore.dll /s SRV*c:\symbols\*http://msdl.microsoft.com/download/symbols

symchk c:\windows\system32\udwm.dll /s SRV*c:\symbols\*http://msdl.microsoft.com/download/symbols

symchk c:\windows\system32\dwm.exe /s SRV*c:\symbols\*http://msdl.microsoft.com/download/symbols

(dwm.exe isn't specified on BM's guide page so possibly isn't needed, also you will probably need to hover over the msdl link part above and edit your command line as the forum seems to shorten the urls with ellipses, or clicking on "Quote" as though you were going to reply to this post and getting the full lines from the reply area works too)

I copied the symbols folders from c:\symbols to the symbols folder under the aeroglass installation and rebooted (just clicking on "retry" in the warning dialog didn't work for me), and the warning message didn't come back.

****, colorization of inactive window is broken(again) in win 10 10532 :(

I really do not understand why you still complain about some issues of Windows preview builds when it was never said that these builds will ever be supported...

Here's the screenshot of the taskbar.

I guess it is the same problem as with the Win8.1 login screen - all solid-color surfaces are currently initialized as glass region to be sure that the glass effect works even when DWM is not compatible.

I'm vetting available updates before installing them on my Win 10 test system...

I show KB3081449 ("This update improves the Windows 10 out-of-box experience (OOBE)") and KB3081452 ("This update makes improvements to ease the upgrade experience to Windows 10") available, in addition to a definition update for Windows Defender.

The listing of files for KB3081449 doesn't include any of the *DWM* files, and they've neglected to put a list in at all for KB3081452 - only that it replaces KB3081441, which doesn't include any *DWM* files.

After installing the above two, KB3081448 ("This update includes improvements to enhance the functionality of Windows 10") became available.  It is a big one, a cumulative update, and it DOES have DWM components listed.

Aero Glass was working perfectly before installing these, so I'll go forth and install KB34081448 as well and see what happens...

...Reboot completed.

As expected, the popup "Aero Glass does not know how to hook your version of DWM" was displayed -- yet there is translucency, and the theme atlas was replaced perfectly.  Pressing the Retry button repeatedly yielded only a redisplay of the pop-up message.

Big Muscle, I really feel sorry for you in the position you're finding yourself in.  It's really impossible to keep up with Microsoft's ridiculous new "update continuously" policy.

Oh, and some things I had configured got de-configured as well, even though I had build a cordon around them with permissions.  For example, "Desktop", which I had eliminated, had magically reappeared under This PC.

Microsoft == Fail

hi, i got an error after logged in.

win 10 x64

Could you provide a download link to symbols, I get error mismatched or not found.  :(

This is why I have ONE BAT FILE TO RULE THEM ALL!  Just a click, and a second, and everything is back the way I want it!  No problems, no worries, hassle free!

I'm not complaining, just reporting... As an insider, I get these preview builds as updates. "Build 10240 is the RTM, but not in the traditional sense, windows 10 will constantly be updated with new features and fixes." - winbeta

Absolutely no problem here. Updates were installed, rebooted, Aero Glass downloaded symbols for dwmcore v16461 and everything works.

I doubt this is something which can MS influence directly, because this kind of changes can happen with ordinary DLL recompiling regardless the real changes in the code.
