Bretlaw
Hey everyone, About 7 years ago I build my first computer, after about 2 years the harddisk crashed (at least, thats what I thought what happend) because I couldn't access my data anymore. I put the harddisk away and thought that some day when SATA disks are oldfashioned it would be really cheap to take it to a recovery-guy who could get some data off of it. When I yesterday went trough my old closet I came across my old Segate Barracuda HDD and after some Googling I quickly found out that there might be a way to recover my data, that how I ended up here. My harddisk:Seagate barracuda 7200.11 500 GbytesS/N: 9QM8S37LST3500320ASP/N: 9BX154-303Firmware: SD15Date code: 09192 Site code: kRATSGWWN: 5000C500108C22C7 Symptoms:In BIOS it says: "not detected". When I put my other HDD in it says: "WDC WD1002FAEX-002".It takes a long time to come past the first screen which just says "express gate" (which is the software that my motherboard uses)Sound: it seems to spin normally, after the first 2 seconds I hear a small crackling noise but thats it, it spins steady. DiagnosisIs this a problem that can be solved by the 'fix' that I can find on several sites? What to do now?I found this website: https://sites.google.com/site/seagatefix/ and I would like to know if this is the right fix. My dad is quite handy with small electronics so I'm going to let him handle this. I also found some youtube video's online.
jaclaz
What to do now?I found this website: https://sites.google.com/site/seagatefix/ and I would like to know if this is the right fix. Well, you may ask there if that fix they have there is the "right" one or ask here if this fix we have here is the right one. Seriously, the fix is always the same, though it may be worded or explained in a better or worse way.For obvious reasons , I would suggest you to read first the READ ME FIRST:http://www.msfn.org/board/topic/143880-seagate-barracuda-720011-read-me-first/AND the FGA's:http://www.msfn.org/board/topic/147532-fga-for-the-seagate-720011-drives/then leave alone EACH AND EVERY guide, tutorial, video you can find elsewhere and follow CarterinCanada's guide:http://www.msfn.org/board/topic/133387-debricking-the-seagate-drives/as it is, to the best of my knowledge the most accurate and easy to follow. And yes the "not detected" in BIOS may be caused by the known "busy" or "BSY" issue, and since you have the SD15 firmware it is also likely to be that the cause. jaclaz
Bretlaw
Hehehe thanks! I will then proceed to use the guide you gave since there is an entire forum that could be quite helpful when things go south. I'll read all of the info and send it to my dad aswell and will hopefully next week or the week after that be able to get my drive working again! Thanks for the info and i'll report back with hopefully good news!
