Dell Optiplex 320 Windows XP setup Sata Driver

So I have a Dell OptiPlex 320. Need to re-install windows XP on it. Old hard drive crashed. So brand new hard drive bought which obviously doesn't include Dell's recovery partition.

Hard drive is SATA. No option in the Bios to run SATA in "compatibility/IDE" mode. So need to install SATA drivers via slipstreaming into the windows installation using NLite.

problem I have, is that not a single driver I could find seems to work. Keep getting the BSOD with the following error:

"STOP: OxOOOOOO7B (OxF7BF2524, OxCOOOOO34, OxOOOOOOOO, OxOOOOOOOO)"

According to google the OptiPlex's SATA driver is a AMD SB600.

Loaded Windows 7 32bit (with zero problems) on the machine to see what CPU-Z says the chipset name is:

Northbridge, ATI RS400/RC400/RC410 Rev01.

Southbridge, ATI SB600 Rev. 00.

Can anybody help? I am officially beat.

Just point me to the correct driver so I can finally install windows XP. Cannot believe I have spent over 50 hours looking for a solution without success.

Tried that. Used an OEM Dell Windows XP SP 3 CD. Used NLite to select the single driver in the x86 folder. Selected the x86 driver (gave me a choice of two drivers the other being the x64 driver) and used TextMode to integrate. Same BSOD.

I am really dumbstruck by this. Especially considering the PC was running windows XP before the hard drive crash.

Try this

BAD BAD BAD!

1.c Users should be made aware of what they are getting prior to any download/install package from a Member provided link

It could have been anything. Make sure to specify what an attachment is next time!

@OP, you say you have Windows 7 on there and it is OK. Can you post the HwID of the SATA controller? You can find it in Device Manager, under the properties of the device, Detail tab and a drop down will have Hardware ID. It will look similar to this:

PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_4380&SUBSYS_E0361631

Here is some more assistance/help, in addition to what Tripredacus has requested.

http://www.msfn.org/board/topic/135840-integration-of-amd-ati-sb7xx-textmode-raid-ahci-drivers-on-an-xp/

See second post. Fernando seems to do very well at this SATA AHCI/RAID thingie.

What confuses me is that Dell only offers Chipset driver that has the IDE Mode driver inside, generally to be installed *after*(?).

Why BAD BAD BAD?

In this topic is about SATA drivers not anything else so why need description?

@ambroseq

If won`t work with Nlite, use Driverpack BASE to integrate Driverpack Masstorage.

If won`t work with Nlite, use Driverpack BASE to integrate Driverpack Masstorage.

Have tried slipstreaming the Mass Storage Drivepack via Driverpack Base and that also didn't work. Same BSOD.

And yes, Dell only provide a PNP driver for when windows XP is already installed (suppose nobody at Dell thought that far to first provide the driver to get Windows XP installed to start with). Besides that they are of zero help.

DriverPacks XP Mass Storage set has a match for VEN_1002&DEV_4380, which is ahcix86.inf, however the SUBSYS is not found.

There is also one for DEV_438C, which is usable (does not limit with SUBSYS) and is called atihdc2.inf. It would appear there are 2 controllers in this PC and you may have been loading the wrong driver set. Then again, I downloaded these from Driverpacks in 2010.

I think your optiplex use this:

AMD SATA Controller(Native IDE Mode)

If you extract optiplex 320 chipset drivers for XP has 2 folder SBMini-IDE and SMBUS.

In SBMini-iDE you can see this info

[Strings]AMD         = "Advanced Micro Devices"SATA_TO_IDE = "AMD SATA Controller(Native IDE Mode)"PCI_IDE     = "AMD PCI IDE Controller"DiskDesc    = "Installation Disk for AMD PCI SATA/IDE Controller"

[ControlFlags]CopyFilesOnly=PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_4380  [Strings]MS                       = "Microsoft"ATI                      = "ATI Technologies Inc"PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_4380.DeviceDesc="ATI SATA Controller IDE mode"DiskId       = "ATI Technologies Inc. Installation DISK (SATA IDE)"

So integrate this attached SATA-native drivers and try again

From Nlite-->Drivers, chose InsertSingle driver and select  ATIide.inf

If it's not too much trouble, could you upload this driver here so I can download it and try it?

The ATlide.inf driver is a pnp driver and not a TextMode driver. Would the pnp work for a windows XP install as I thought only TextMode drivers worked??

Hmm after some research I think won`t work...

Regular PNP Driver should be used with devices that will be installed during the installation (network, video, sound), Textmode Drivers are loaded before the Windows installation starts, it is the equivalent of pressing F6

LE. Now you have Windows 7 on it?

Yes sir. Windows 7 32 bit installed with zero problems from USB. Many missing drivers still need to be installed like Video, but it installed and works nonetheless. Just using generic VGA driver for video.

I am not sir.

Make a screenshot from Windows 7 like mine from attachment.

You try to install XP from USB or cd-rom?

LE. And on Windows 7, 99% work drivers from Vista.
