I paid to have Windows Mail installed on my Windows 7 laptop ...

I don't know if Windows Live Mail was automatically included on my Windows 7 laptop when I got it; however, after not having my laptop open for quite some time I booted it up and caught up on scans, Windows Updates, etc. When I opened my email it opened as Windows Live Mail. When I tried to open Windows Mail, it would not open.

 

I found it on my hard drive under Program Files and tried to open it from there but apparently a Windows Update must have messed something up. The folder is there, in both Program Files and Program Files (x86) and they contain files, but the Windows Mail program I paid to have installed and which worked perfectly for quite some time will no longer open. I had some folders set up within the program that I would like to have access to. Can anyone one help me fix whatever has gone wrong with this? 

 

I'd appreciate your help. I can't afford to pay the same people I had install it the first time another $37.95 to have it installed again.

Windows Mail comes with Windows Vista, Windows Live Mail is part of Windows Live Essentials that can be installed on Windows 7. Both are free. So what did you pay for? Copying the Windows mail folder from Vista to Windows 7?

Anyway, you might have agreed to migrate from Windows Mail top Windows Live Mail without noticing. Does Windows Live Mail not show those folders you're looking for?

I think Windows Mail should still work though.

For a period of time... Windows Live Essentials was installed by OEMs on systems that had Office 2010 or the first Office 2013 version pre-installed. It isn't a paid product, so while it may have been installed on the computer when you bought it, it isn't a cost to either you or the OEM who sold the system.

And *yes* it was a Vista transplant. It *had* to be!

Outlook Express pre-Vista=Vista Microsoft Mail ("more-or-less").

Kind of says (implies) that Vista folders/contents were "left in-place" when developing Win7/8.

More info (settling "left in place" not really true...)

 

Windows 7 does not include an email client even though there is a Windows Mail folder in program files. While this folder is primarily intended for the purpose of enabling Windows Live Mail to operate, it can be modifed to operate as an independent email client.

See Page#2 thats states Live Mail works just as well/the same when set up properly.

I also *highly* recommend that *nobody* download illegal software. See the above links and note the Attachments have been removed accordingly.

Sophy, I see Winmail.exe in both "\Program Files" and "\Program Files (x86)\". Have you tried both?

It is called an tax. The United States government needs to recover from all the religion on religion activity they have been doing. You have tickets for crossing train cars, ( like jay walking ). People getting shot for no reason at all.It is an epidemic. Microsoft just done rapped your wallet and nobody is going to cry about it. I guess you need to cancel the internet for awhile.

In fact OP that is exactly what you and all of us should do right now. Cancel our internet subscription for one month and explain.That is right tell the internet company that you want the service canned for a month because Microsoft slipped you a nicky with their upgrade. Explain to the beggar salesperson how you was wrongfully violated by Microsofts upgrade.

It is called the occupied internet movement. I choose not to pay because my fellow brother; has been molested by Microsoft mail tactics.
