Locking the Windows 2000 Taskbar

The ability to lock the taskbar was introduced in Windows XP. I would like to be able to do that in Windows 2000. Is it as easy as changing or adding some registry value? I really have no idea how it works. I'm guessing that there are resources that need to be added to system files and everything. Maybe someone with more technical knowledge can shed some light on the situation.

 

All I know is that I'm forever accidentally modifying parts of the taskbar: Accidentally make it double-height, accidentally changing the order of the quick launch icons and even somehow grabbing the quick launch bar and putting it on the other side of the taskbar, by the clock.

Have you tried the "NoSetTaskbar" Registry key/Group Policy? (cannot really say if it locks the taskbar, I don't think it will, but it is worth a try):

Try checking/observing changes (if any) of 13th byte of HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\StuckRects2, see:

when you move the taskbar.

 

Possibly removing Authorization to that key would "lock" the taskbar (buit it may als make your system unbootable/crash, so make sure you have a "way out" plan before fiddling with it.

Prevent adjusting the toolbar, size, position

The "Disable Adjusting Toolbars" group policy is pretty close to what I was looking for. Thanks.

Well, I've been busy.

 

 

 

 

I've managed to add the toggles for the setting. Now I just need to actually link them to something. Anybody have any pointers for where to go from here? I've been looking in the registry and haven't found anything promising. Maybe some more system files need to be modified.
