saderworld
Hi; I am trying to access the http://www.mdgx.com/sbdrv part on the site to download some drivers for my sound blaster Live! plus the SB16emu for windows 98se but I keep getting a Forbidden page when I try to load it up. Can someone hook me up with the files or fix the page; I would be very thankful. Edited November 3, 2014 by saderworld
Ponch
I don't know where you get the link from. Here ? http://www.mdgx.com/drv.htm
Nomen
I don't know where you get the link from. Here ? http://www.mdgx.com/drv.htmLooking at the source of that page, the only place I see "sbdrv" is on this line:(A TARGET=_self HREF=/sbdrv/>Creative Labs Sound Blaster AWE/PCI/Live!/Audigy series Windows/WfWG 3.1x/95/98/ME + nativeMS-DOS 5/6/7/8 Audio Drivers, Patches + Tools(/A)This google query: site:http://www.mdgx.com/sbdrv strangely says there are 17 results, but only gives one clickable link: www.mdgx.com/sbdrv/ Which is returning 403 Forbidden. I found these on a pastebin page:SB_Live!_Setup_CD_ISO_1713331000.rarhttp://www.mdgx.com/sbdrv/SB_Live!_Setup_CD_ISO_1713331000.rarSB_Live!_24-bit_Setup_CD_ISO_3201ML0000306.rarhttp://www.mdgx.com/sbdrv/SB_Live!_24-bit_Setup_CD_ISO_3201ML0000306.rarSB_PCI512_Setup_CD_ISO_1713330882.rarhttp://www.mdgx.com/sbdrv/SB_PCI512_Setup_CD_ISO_1713330882.rarSB_Live!_Value_Setup_CD_ISO_1713330760.rarhttp://www.mdgx.com/sbdrv/SB_Live!_Value_Setup_CD_ISO_1713330760.rarSB_16_Setup_CD_ISO_1713310318.rarhttp://www.mdgx.com/sbdrv/SB_16_Setup_CD_ISO_1713310318.rar(the pastebin page where I found those also contains a lot of links to a wierd assortment of other content. Strange...)But all of those are also giving 403 forbidden. Does MDGX not have any Sound Blaster files? Or were they moved to another part of the site? The wayback machine has none of those, due to robots.txt. (Strange - how can "Disallow: /robots.txt" be listed *in* robots.txt?)BTW, if you do a search for just the above file names, you'll see that some of them were posted on Vogons (at least one was, back in June 2011). I'm guessing the OP came here after seeing them on Vogons and discovering the links don't work.I found some files here:http://www.generalfil.es/files-c/creative-sound-blaster-live/?qa=creative+sound+blaster+live&ca=168427779Don't know if they're the same or not.Is there something I / we don't know about these old Sound Blaster files? Have they been forced to be taken down over the past 2/3 years?
submix8c
I'm only guessing here, but I believe that *maybe* MDGx has1 - determined that copyright applies and don't want hassled2 - had a webiste "hit" and files are trashed3 - been "hacked" at some point4 - decided to rework the website but hasn't finished5 - blocked because of too much bandwidth for large filesTake your pick or just send a PM and ask. He may or may not answer. FWIW, I have them all archived. Which particular VID/PID (model) do you need?

It just takes your files and gives you a download link that you can then post here for anyone to download.
submix8c
Ummm... no! 1.7GB. P.S. I have my own Server and choose to *not* do that (U.S. copyright). VID/PID, please. CORRECTION:Errr... Ven/Dev in Registry "HKLM/ENUM/PCI" -or- "HKLM/ENUM/ISAPNP". Edited November 4, 2014 by submix8c

Tripredacus
Ah - this topic has been moved. But to where? To the section about websites of course! EDIT: I left the redirect on the original thread location because the user is new. In the Win9x forum it does show the redir thread has 0 views.
saderworld
thanks for the replies. I am new and I appreciate the thought; been setting up my old p4 as a duel boot computer for 98 and xp. Got everything working but got some sound issues so I have been trying to fix them. Mainly the pc speaker (MIDI) is really quiet for some reason and the card doesnt play dos sounds. Submix I have a SB0100 so its the Sound Blaster Live! 5.1 (idk what "HKLM/ENUM/PCI" -or- "HKLM/ENUM/ISAPNP" means but its a PCI card) Edited November 4, 2014 by saderworld

You can create a topic in the Win9x forum about the problems you are experiencing with your sound card in DOS or Win98. We'll leave this topic here regarding MGDX website not working. saderworld
I know the issues with it; I still want the drivers so I can do something about it but this post is mostly a "website error can I get the files"
submix8c
1 - Start->Programs->MS DOS Prompt (opens a Command Window)-or-Start->Run (gives a "box")2 - Enter "Regedit" then press "enter" key3 - Looks like a Windows Explorer. Go to the Registry Keys I gave (HKLM is short for HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE)4 - Find the one that says "Sound Blaster" and/or one that says "Unknown Device"5 - There will be some keys that say VEN followed by DEV. I need the complete string.6 - At the top left (the Menu), Exit the Regedit. *DO NOT CHANGE ANYTHING*Even though it "says" SB0100 on the card, it may be a variation not necessarily that "model". This has been known to happen, hence the "specific" VEN/DEV values. Once again, I won't do the whole CD but *might* supply the exact one if you will provide that information. Also, there's a program called "Unknown Device Identifier" that you could try -but- it installs as a Program and would later need Uninstalled. What I ask is easier. Nomen
This thread is (to me) still fundamentally about how / where to obtain certain win-98 driver files. I don't see how the fact that it also pertains to a certain website (where those files used to be found) would take this topic out of the realm of being a win-9x discussion - especially since there seems to be no resolution or additional info or conversation about why the files are no longer on mgdx (no real discussion happening here along those lines). So if it's not about "websites", then why is it here? And I still don't know where "here" is. Is there any way to see the name of the forum that this thread is taking place in? I don't see the forum name or forum tree structure anywhere on this page. The url that I see is simply /board/topic/172994-forbidden-sound-blaster/ and that doesn't tell me what forum this thread is taking place in. The only way I know it exists is because of the link from the win-9x forum.
Tripredacus
This is the Websites and Boards section. You can see it at the top of the screen. Here is an example of my view: Here is a link to the category: http://www.msfn.org/board/forum/4-websites-and-boards/ The topic title and the first post is about getting a Forbidden error trying to access a portion of a forum member's website, that is why it is here. If you have a question about where you can find drivers for a specific device, you can post in the Drivers section: http://www.msfn.org/board/forum/88-device-drivers/ Or the appropriate OS section. But you might want to search beforehand, in case there is a topic already present that may help you out.
