david.lynch Posted July 22, 2014 Posted July 22, 2014 (edited) What are the specific updates to the kernel? Edited July 23, 2014 by david.lynch
submix8c Posted July 22, 2014 Posted July 22, 2014 HUH??? If you've used Windows/Microsoft Update you already have them!http://xdot.tk has every single update you'll ever need. XP (any Release of Home/Pro, beware OEM, especially Dell) + SP3 + those downloaded with the Script + Integrate all with nLite and you're done. HTH
david.lynch Posted July 22, 2014 Author Posted July 22, 2014 (edited) KB2813170 from 4/8/2013 is the most recent that I've found that specifically updates kernel files. Updated versions are: ntkrnlmp.exe 5.1.2600.6368ntkrnlpa.exe 5.1.2600.6368ntkrpamp.exe 5.1.2600.6368ntoskrnl.exe 5.1.2600.6368 This update exists for Windows Server 2003 too. Wish we had access to the full changelog. Would they just fix the security issues or functionality and stability gets better? Guest Posted July 23, 2014 Posted July 23, 2014 (edited) Since Win2003 was mentioned, the latest HAL file that I've found for Win2003 x64 and XP x64 is KB949459-v2.hal.dll - 08/15/2008 - 5.2.3790.4355 Edited July 23, 2014 by 5eraph 1
submix8c Posted July 23, 2014 Posted July 23, 2014 (edited) Hmmm...KB2813170 from 4/8/2013 is the most recent that I've found that specifically updates kernel files.http://xdot.tkGuess you didn't look there? That's Obsolete/Superseded. If you look at the Change Log you'll see that it's been replaced several times and this one is the latest -http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2859537 Ntkrnlmp.exe 5.1.2600.6419 2,149,888 04-Jul-2013 03:03 x86 SP3 SP3QFENtkrnlpa.exe 5.1.2600.6419 2,070,144 04-Jul-2013 02:08 x86 SP3 SP3QFENtkrpamp.exe 5.1.2600.6419 2,028,544 04-Jul-2013 02:08 x86 SP3 SP3QFENtoskrnl.exe 5.1.2600.6419 2,193,536 04-Jul-2013 02:59 x86 SP3 SP3QFEI thought I pointed you in the right direction? david.lynch Posted July 23, 2014 Author Posted July 23, 2014 (edited) right you are! submix8c Edit: an excellent updates list like http://xdot.tk/ for Server 2003, anyone, please? Edit #2: Link for KB2914368 on the list points to KB2440591. Edited July 23, 2014 by david.lynch
submix8c Posted July 23, 2014 Posted July 23, 2014 (edited) 1) No, no Update List for Server 2003. Very few folks use/need/ask for it. (see Windows Updates Downloader) 2) Nope! List#1 is Current, List#2 is Obsolete, List#3 is "Change Log". Date of Change, followed by "+" means added "-" means either removed (for some reason) -or- replaced by something (explained below "+" and "-"). You've misread that - try scrolling through, it's very clear.*Needed/High Priority (NO OPTIONALS, e.g. dotNet, MP10/11, Silverlight, etc.)- Filename+MS-Article+KB-Article+Description*Obsolete List (-or- Superseded)- Filename+Replaced-By(and Version)+Description <<--Your confusion*Change Log (as I explained above)! NOTE! Original Links listed in "Obsolete" will be "somewhere" within it, e.g.January 2014+ WindowsXP-KB2914368-x86-ENU.exe <-There's your link you said was wrong. - WindowsXP-KB2440591-x86-ENU.exe replaced by WindowsXP-KB2914368-x86-ENU.exe <-See "Obsolete" List The method of Changes that -X- uses is to (did) get the Patch Tuesday Updates, compare to Current. If files inside never existed in any other previous fixes, add it, if files inside Replaces/Supersedes, -MOVE- "old" from List#1 to List#2, log actions (in either case) to a Change Log with the Date, and change the Download Script accordingly. As you can see, only two items since EOS, so you might want to get this and use it -NOW- plus any other Optionals (you're on your own on that) plus any of the Unofficial POSReady (look for that in MSFN). -X- ONLY deals/dealt with Required and Fixes Only.
