Hi,

I've got the following situation: if there is a disc in the drive the boot time is 10 s to a responsive desktop.

If there is no disc in the drive the boot is 15 s to a responsive desktop.

Why is Windows scaning for a disc?....(I can see every time DVD Writer led blinking with the boot)... Some other systems do not scan...

Can you please advise how can i disable it...

Thanks in advance!

Best regards,

intzepatorii

Laptop, desktop? Has this always been the case ? Can you tell if the 5seconds difference are before or after Windows starts (you say "Windows scans for a the disc")?

thanks for looking.

desktop, using a Samsung 840 ssd, rapid mode enabled.

system is 2 days old.

I think there was always a disc in the unit since the setup.

when I removed the discs, I noticed Windows is losing 5 secs with the image with the coloured 4 square-windows.

So it's scanning for a disc in the unit just before all services start.

When I diagnose using the Windows Performance Kit, if I have a disc in the unit processes start after 10 secs.

Doing the same without any disc in the unit the processes start after 15 secs.

The optical unit is blinking every time and I don't think it is normal, other computers don't do it.

very weird indeed, I didn't see it in the past either.

just the fact that the unit is not empty makes the boot faster, there could be any cd or dvd.

the only option could be an external drive unless somebody might solve it... or leave it the way it is. :P

I diagnose using the Windows Performance Kit,

You could wait for Magic Andre to pass by. Or you could post a link to this thread in the 1st pinned topic.

Blind shot: Could it be that the DVD is plugged into one of the dreaded Marvell ports? If that's the case try plugging into a standard SATA port.
