Same here.

If Microsoft really delivers TLS1.3 and no major security flaws are found, I have the feeling that we will still be around for quite some time. Not to mention that I am planning to ask Microsoft if they'll keep their Premium Support available after April 2019 and how much it would cost, 'cause if there are still a considerable amount of companies that are paying for it, they'll keep it and I would be more prone to pay for it rather than paying a W10 licence. After all, the US military services - including the navy and the air force - already said that they have specialised hardware and hand-written software running on XP-derivate and they didn't plan to upgrade anytime soon 'cause it would require a complete rewrite of the softwares and further tests before deploying them to the field. Imagine having to rewrite programmes written in C/C++ with the core in x86 ASM for radars, proximity controllers, navigation systems, airflow controllers, pressure stabilisers and many other things...  I mean, it's possible and it would probably get some benefits from x64 and modern AVX512 intrinsics, but it would be a pain in the b- uh... I mean a nightmare to re-write, test and support.

I will continue using XP after April 2019 even if I do not have updates. The most important thing for security is the browser and I use one for XP that is updated approximately every month: Mypal 27.9.4 (oldrac, Pale Moon based) https://github.com/Feodor2/Mypal/releases

Other browsers for XP that are updated weekly: http://rtfreesoft.blogspot.com/search/label/browser

New Palemoon 27 (New Moon, Feodor2's patches based "Mypal") Also versions SSE or noSSE.
KM-Goanna (KMeleon)
Firfox 45ESR SSE (Nightly, Mozilla based)
Basilik 52/UXP (Serpent, Basilisk based)
PM28XP (New Moon, Pale Moon based, pre-release)

A manual run of the MU picked up all the updates and they all seemed to install fine.  However, kb4458318 popped up again after a second run of MU.  I manually downloaded that one and ran the trusty /overwriteoem switch and that took care of that.

Yes, I had to do that too!
I also can't install KB4457046.
It throws error 0x66A every time on Microsoft Update, and when I try the standalone installer, I get "KB4457046 does not apply, or is blocked by another condition on your computer."
Anyone any ideas about that?
I can't find any reference online to that specific problem.
The other .NET 4.0 update installed fine.
:dubbio:

Hey Dave, until you get some replies from the heavy hitters I'll add I do my installs with my virus protection disabled.  Also have you tried clearing your temp folder for your updates?  The last thing I can think of is check your logs for a clue.

@Dave-H

It seems that KB4457046 is a critical security update for .NET Framework 4 Extended only. If You have only .NET Framework 4 Client Profile installed on Your system then this update is not required for You and this is a Microsoft Update error if it appears again and again.

Sorry for the delay in responding, I don't seem to be getting any e-mail notifications of replies again.
:(
Yes, I only have Client Profile installed on the machine with the problem, so that would certainly explain it!

@Dave-H: you may want to visit Aaron Stebner's wonderful Unified .NET Framework Troubleshooting Guide page:
https://blogs.msdn.microsoft.com/astebner/2005/08/22/unified-net-framework-troubleshooting-guide/
once there you might download the Setup Verification Tool and the Tool to Gather Logs and run them... you'll get a wealth of info about your setup without harming it, and as a bonus, you get familiar with one of the most useful single pages on the web!
We have cross posted... well, I'm glad my suggestion is unnecessary, in view of your latest post. Then again, I still recommend a visit to Aaron's page, just to get familiar with it and his powerful tools. :)
