Hi wyxchari, the link you posted above is no longer available. Could you please be kind enough to re-upload this file? I can't find the PTB version anywhere in the internet (besides Google, I've also tried the Wayback Machine and torrent sites). Muchas gracias!

Just look in the Brazilian folder instead of Portuguese. (Incidentally, this post was the very next one after the one you quoted :sneaky:)

Hey - I have a weekend free - what better to do than to check this mighty thread?

I just manually ran Microsoft Update on my XP machine, and it shows me an OPTIONAL update - should I run it?  It says:

Update for WES09 and POSReady 2009 (KB4459091)

I'm sure the wise leaders here have already discussed it, but I'm always sitting in the back of the classroom reading science fiction.

Thanks.

Beware of viruses in USB because with some update, if automatic playback was disabled, it is activated again.
It has happened to me for a few months and with gpedit.msc I have not managed to fix it. There is using:

regedit.exe     HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\policies\Explorer\NoDriveTypeAutorun     0xFF

Do you connect your system to a domain controller? If so does the setting revert after you disconnect from the domain controller? I assume you have installed KB967715 and KB971029?

Finding the relevant details in the pile of MS documentation can be problematic. But KB967715 has this to say:

Quote

Note This setting appears in both the Computer Configuration and User Configuration folders. If the settings conflict, the setting in Computer Configuration takes precedence over the setting in User Configuration.

So you may need to change the key you are setting to be

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\policies\Explorer\NoDriveTypeAutorun 0xFF

and I can't figure out why MS has so many articles describing use of the wrong key!

There is also the

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\policies\Explorer\HonorAutorunSetting 0x01

that is described later in the same article.

You might need to repeat the steps in https://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/437944/how-to-disable-autorun/#entry2556075 for each USB stick you own, kinda tedious, and what about new sticks you do not yet own or haven't gotten around to adjusting settings for?

So much for the MS way. A more interesting approach is at

The symptom is caused by C:\Documents and Settings\<account>\NTUSER.DAT and C:\Documents and Settings\<account>\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Windows\UsrClass.dat do not have access permission for corresponding service account. I located those 4 files and set them to inherit the permission from parents, restart, and problem solved.

I had initially tried adjusting permissions on just those 4 files. It reduced, but did not completely eliminate the event log errors for my system. For me the problem did not completely resolve until I also adjusted the rest of the folders as indicated. YMMV.

For some users, KB4486463 may cause installation problems because part of the kernel will be updated. If necessary, execute manually with the parameter "-o".

windowsxp-kb4486463-x86-embedded-enu_8ab6c1cbd442dbdd8667993af4ee093abf09fb41.exe -o

I had troubles after applying KB4487085.  After installing KB4487085, many programs would not run correctly and I would sometimes receive errors like the following:

"The procedure entry point sprinttf_s could not be located in the dynamic link library msvcrt.dll."
"Error loading C:\WINDOWS\system32\NvCpl.dll"

The second error message appear to be for the nVidia driver software.

I removed KB4487085 and things seemed corrected.

I've had to do that quite a few times before with updates, but only on my netbook, not on my main machine.
They appear to install, but don't as they can't replace some files, and are then offered again.
Thanks for the heads-up!

I've had this happen too.  I got two messages:

1

rundll32.exe
procedure entry point spintf_s could not be located in the dynamic link library msvcrt.dll

-------------

2

Rundll
Error Loading C:\windows\system32\Nvcpl.dll
Specificied Procedure Could Not be Found

I also used the recommended /O switch and the results were the same.

Any words of wisdom?

I saw the crappy message below, too, and DaemonToolsLite 4.45 (important) and two other uninportant start-up programs crashed in flames!
"The procedure entry point sprinttf_s could not be located in the dynamic link library msvcrt.dll."
@Ascii2's posted before I had found out which update was to blame. My thanks to all of you who posted about it. It seems KB4487085 is the latest crappy update MS came out with...

@Ascii2: did KB4486463 install correctly for you? If so, you should have:
%windir%\system32\ntoskrnl.exe v. 5.1.2600.7649 (orig. ntkrnlmp.exe)
and
%windir%\system32\ntkrnlpa.exe v. 5.1.2600.7581 (orig. ntkrpamp.exe)
In case your machine uses a multicore processor, of course.
