Heinoganda - thanks.  But do you recommend that I install KB4039384 and KB4039111 ?
I'm a little confused because you wrote "There is no need for action."

(I'm always looking for a reason to be lazy, but in this case....)

Hello glnz, if KB4039384 and KB4039111 already installed, they do not need to be installed again!

Only KB4025398 available from 08/28/2017 in the WSUS catalog, no update of the file msinfo32.exe version 5.1.2600.7292 more possible!
The original update of KB4025398 (07/10/2017) updated the msinfo32.exe file, not msinfo.dll.

Also definitely identical file for security update to the msinfo.dll present in the system.

kb4025398.jpg

Update:
A test at WU / MU brought the result the KB4025398 no longer offered (Why also)!

Strange!? :dubbio:

:)

It's not identical with the SP3 version. Only the version is the same, content is different (PE binary code). Additionally, the msinfo32.exe is only the launcher, not the real system information - latter is the msinfo.dll, which serves as a module for the Windows Help Center Service. If you start msinfo32.exe, the small process simply quits after launching the system information. However, in WS2008 the msinfo32.exe contains the real code (see size on support site) and probably that's the reason why MS "updated" the exe accidently in xpe instead of the dll, too - and then corrected the update package on August.

Yes, you should install KB4039111. About KB4039111.

@ all

For KB4025398, the incorrect version should be uninstalled before installing the latest one.
If the current update is installed with KB4025398 via the incorrect update, the msinfo32.exe file is not removed. If KB4025398 is uninstalled, the msinfo32.exe file is restored, but msinfo.dll is not restored, KB4025398.cat is also uninstalled from the ProductCatalogs. So that there could be problems with the file protection. In this case, I can offer a uninstaller solving this problem, it will be necessary any suitable Windows XP sp3 installation medium which was used for the installation. After cleanup, reinstall the more up-to-date and error-free KB4025398 update. For ENU and DEU is also an uninstaller, where no Windows XP sp3 CD is needed. If interested, please send a PM.

Well, tomorrow's the big day.

Sort of like New Year's Eve, and we should get reports from around the globe as the clock passes midnight.

Is anyone monitoring from Vanuatu?  How about New Zealand?  Japan?

(New Jersey)

At worst, Dave-H will stand on the Greenwich Meridian and let us know at precisely 12:01 am GMT.

I've got the west coast covered in CA.  I fired up the XP beast 1/2 an hour ago.  No sign of Updates kicking off in my task manager.  Last time I went to Windows Update to get it going.  I'll leave it running for a while longer to see if I get my favorite Install Shield back.

Exactly what I received.......I manually downloaded the updates from the catalog today and ran microsoft update to make sure I hadn't missed anything.......picked up the .net framework rollups through microsoft update.   Everything running perfect here.   I was a bit surprised at the number of updates, having received only a couple last month.

I waited for a few hours this morning for the automatic updates to kick in and nothing.  I've been on the Windows Updates  site trying to manually pick them up and it's been grinding away for the last 4 or 5 hours.  I'll give it a while longer until I download them old-school style.

Is everyone happy with the updates?

(Just finished my tax-prep work for the accountant, which means a gremlin somewhere is just waiting for a chance to zots my XP machine ...)

If you want to speed up WU detection instal first KB4042120 (win32k.sys) and KB4040685 (IE8). That worked for me.

By the way, NET4 KB4040962 replaces KB2978125 (system.runtime.remoting.dll)

Glnz, I have no complaints with the updates themselves.  Mine has Office 2003, so it didn't take both 2007 updates, but it did take the Comparability Pack.  I guess that's the last time we get that luxury anyway.

LiamZ, I finally gave up on waiting and just downloaded and installed from the links provided.  How long did people wait?  I gave up at about 5 hours or so.

Well, I've downloaded and installed Comparability Pack update, then the IE8 one, and rebooted. Then I told MU to look for updates and waited just 1 (one) minute, before it gave me the list with the remaining updates. Did the same on my second machine and got the same result. And I guess, form next month on, just adding by hand the IE8 update ought to be enough to get such a result, once again.
