POSReady 2009 updates ported to Windows XP SP3 ENU

It seems the following issue has not been fixed in POSReady 2009:

https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/security/ms15-085.aspx

Does this apply to Vista and later only?

Hard to say, however it is a non-issue .

Though the actual CVE has not even be filled yet :w00t:, it is simply "reserved" right now:

http://www.cve.mitre.org/cgi-bin/cvename.cgi?name=CVE-2015-1769

it is seemingly one of the zilllion "escalation of privileges" from a LOCAL (physical) access.

More or less the only ones that should be worried by this are Internet Cafes, Libraries or other organization where physical access to a given machine is provided to "perfect strangers", BTW, if such local, physical access to strangers is provided, particularly if not under surveillance, there are tens, hundreds or maybe thousands of possible ways to obtain the same and pwn the machine.

Yes, I had 10 updates yesterday!

Four were for the Office 2007 Compatibility Pack, so you won't get those if you haven't got that installed.

There was the usual Malicious Software Removal Tool, and the Cumulative Update for IE8, plus four others.

Try doing a manual check on Microsoft Update or Windows Update, whichever it is that you use.

Slowly it becomes narrower, KB3055973-v3 was not available to install on Windows XP with another language, except in English version (http://www.msfn.org/board/topic/171814-posready-2009-updates-ported-to-windows-xp-sp3-enu/page-22#entry1103540)! KB3075221 (https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/3075221) not available for Remote Desktop 7 and a update for the .NET Framework 3.0 (https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/3078662) is also not available (the latter in both you have the update for Vista knit an update for XP   :w00t: ).

I am not getting it.

What are the "news"?

The use of a backup made with ERUNT?

http://www.911cd.net/forums//index.php?s=&showtopic=25787&view=findpost&p=175632

Why should I need an "original" in Italian?

Jaclaz, my english is basic, i'm non sure of automated translation.

The suggested procedure can be useful for removing from the WinXP registers the POSReady hack, more conveniently than offline editing

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\WPA\PosReady]

"Installed"=dword:00000001  ==> Edit to 0

1. Close all programs

2. Create a backup set of registry with ERUNT or Registry Backup

3. Start a registry editor, and load the SYSTEM hive from the backup set created in step 2

4. In the loaded hive, put the Installed DWORD value to 0

5. Unload the hive

6. Run the registry restore and restart WinXP

Hey brave people (and thanks to Dave-H) - has anyone else had any issues with last Tuesday's patches?  No smell of smoke?  No weird error messages and user folders creating themselves like January?  Thanks.

With what Dave mentioned several posts back about the number of updates for August ... I don't get the POSReady updates at this time but I have MS Office 2000 installed and I had five updates for the Office 2007 Compatibility Pack.

Dave said he had four for his setup ... I also had one update for July and none in June.

Just thought I'd mention this ... maybe a difference for computers getting the POSReady updates and computers not getting those updates ... I don't know.

Maybe this depends on what version of MS Office is installed ... again, don't know.

Sorry, my mistake. :blushing: There were indeed five updates for the Office 2007 Compatibility Pack.

KB2837610, KB3054888, KB2825645, KB2986254, and KB3054890, as you say.

The other OS security updates were KB3078601, KB3076895, and KB3073921.

The other two of the total ten were the IE8 Cumulative Update and the Malicious Software Removal Tool.

Thanks for confirming the five updates for the Office 2007 Compatibility Pack. It's good to know that with or without getting the newer POSReady updates, the MS Office updates seem to be the same for everybody.

Dave-H, dencorso, Mcinwwl and monroe - thanks.  Have just finished downloading last Tuesday's updates.  No problems.

MEANTIME, for dencorso and silverni and jaclaz and heinoganda, I have ATTACHED my list of completed updates for NET Framework -- this list was generated by Belarc Advisor.  Which .NET UPDATES am I missing?

Many thanks.
