all this hate ...

XP as did 98 will live a decade if not more

its hilarious how you people expect some apocalypse

ccc...

By "you," you don't mean the people here at MSFN, right?

Because I don't think anyone here is actually hating on XP or expecting a botnet/exploit apocalypse come April 8.

The plus side is that Malwarebytes pledged life support for us Win XP users

Is that the life of the user or some other life, like the life of the product? What if somebody young becomes a user of XP now? :w00t:

If that was the case we can have a never ending cycle of support for malwarebytes!!!

A relevant question is "Who reported the bugs/security flaws until now, how and why?".

If someone could exploit a flaw until it was patched (thus first detected and reported), maybe that someone could have now waited and keep that trick "for later" knowing he could then exploit it for a far longer time.

@Ponch

most likely

but only MS would benefit from it

usually when OS goes out of support, attackers focus on newly most used

Don't give idea to the M$ people. Actually they probably will/are doing this behind are backs to prove XP is 'unsafe'.

That was an excellent article in the Inquirer. I'm pretty sure one can survive without an antivirus and still do banking from an XP system as long as the installed browser version is supported at their bank.

J7n, antivirus is a must for even the newest Windows OS, especially if you do such dangerous things like on-line banking.

Just released preliminary reports (Thursday April 3) for the final XP update are in: "Windows XP and Office 2003's final Patch Tuesday will have only four updates total and only one critical each for Office and XP. The number of vulnerabilities is still undisclosed. Microsoft will also release a new version of the Malicious Software Removal Tool and an undisclosed number of non-security updates."

I remember the final month of W2K updates (July 2010) there were no updates for 2K at all.

XP's not dead just because Microsoft says it is.

Like I said, what they're doing is more akin to trying to bury it alive.

... Someone ... someone go get a shovel, we've gotta dig XP out of there.
