Why is Akamai constantly connecting to my PC?

I recently switched ISP's and decided to moved around my firewall rules, delete some, etc. Don't trust this ISP so I wanted to see it's different connections attempts. While this is going on, I'm constantly getting echo request and maybe others that I block from Akamai, China and less from other parts of the globe.

One of my weak points is networking so I'm looking for some enlightenment. Why does Akamai need to connect to my computer? EDIT: I know full well that Akamai is harmless but still curious.

BTW, I had the ISP enable bridged mode on the modem they shipped me because the silly thing had no way to turn off WiFi! I've yet to hook up my router to secure things so I'm pretty wide open ATM due to pure laziness on my part.

IP addresses from China (and others) are common. I get them all the time, sometimes due to a scan for an open port to detect Servers (usually) to attack/steal-from (see last sentence). Akamai may be problematic.

Maybe you have "auto-update" turned on in something?

On my ISP's Router (ATT ADSL) I have everything blocked incoming except my Website/FTPsite. Bear in mind, using any P2P software will cause activity due to "searching for a P2P file" that you -may- have downloaded.

edit - here's something interesting (goes along with the Wiki link above) -

I'm just working on my computer or something and sometimes browsing when this happens so it's not P2P. WU is on but it only checks once a day or if I reboot.

I'm using the very old but trusty Kerio Personal Firewall 2.1.5. The last version produced going back to when it was named Tiny Firewall in which the author took it with him when he went to work for Kerio. The new and improved Kerio Firewall was not my cup of tea.

Well, as the link states Akamai is very prevalent so you may get some "hits".

AHHH! Here ya go! Stealth and another Setting!

It appears that it's a "garbage" Log Entry that should be turned off and disregarded.

side note - I also have that version but use Symantec instead and have "Stealth" turned off because it DOES block some items that shouldn't be blocked. Indeed, it actually BLOCKS my Website's proper functioning.
