I just wonder if anyone an tell me how WSUS Offline works.

does it examine my hardware system and download packs just for that system, or is it just concentrating on the patches/fixes/hotfixes installed and d/loading the newest ones..once I have selected correct OS

I have built up an nLite sliptreamed XP SP3 CD and it is now installed, on both a Dell and a VMWare machine

If I run WSUS ON BOTH the Dell and the VM machine (on Mac) will it d/load the same updates? or does the hardware determine what it downloads?

The dell machine is in a place with very poor internet..so I want to run the WSUSoffline d/loader on the VM machine at home..then take the downloaded packages to the Dell machine

will that work?

Check on the right column, under "Publications" on that page:

http://www.wsusoffline.net/docs/

You will find a link to:

which should clarify your doubts.

The actual "Update Microsoft Windows and Office without an Internet connection" or the Introduction on:

http://www.wsusoffline.net/

Introduction

At this site, the open source project formerly known as "c't offline update" or "DIY Service Pack" and published at "The H", will be continued by its original author, Torsten Wittrock.

Using "WSUS Offline Update", you can update any computer running Microsoft Windows and Office safely, quickly and without an Internet connection.

should actually have been enough, theory of operation is that you download from *any* machine connected to the internet all the updates for a given OS (independent from the actual hardware used for the downloading) then you transfer via "physical media" the downloaded files to the non-connected to the internet machine and upgrade the OS on that machine.
