Windows Update and UURollup - safe match.

Short answer - No.

  • There have been no Windows 2000 updates released through Windows Update since June 2010. If you've already installed all available packages then there's no need to use WU for downloading any Windows updates.
  • Windows Update still works for other components like .NET Framework, MS VC++ or Office. The problem is that at the moment USP5, UR2 and UURollup are not really compatible with WU, meaning that you'll be offered official updates whose files are in fact already present in the system. In most cases this is not an issue but UURollup is a special case because the unofficial files included in it are unknown from the WU point of view. It should be possible to use some registry tricks to prevent WU from offering specific official updates but it will require a lot of trial and error testing. At the moment I'd strongly recommend not using WU as in the worst case it may simply break your system.
