Server hosting (trace route)

So a game I play has a server that says it's hosted in "United States (West Coast)". But when I do a tracert to it, it jumps from the West Coast to the United Kingdom at the last trace, why is this? I know it must be hosted where they say it is because I get a decent ping. But I was always wondering why it jumps back like that.

Does it affect my gameplay when it has to go back overseas like that?

Well aware, but why would it trace back to it at the last one? The ping doesn't go back there does it? Not all the servers do that.
