tal ormanda
Windows 8 Pro 64-bit with Media Center. When I install the 8.1 upgrade it gets stuck at 84% then 85% and goes to a black screen and then BSOD's to DRIVER_POWER_STATE_FAILURE....Side note: The family PC that DOESN'T have media center installed 8.1 fine. Tripredacus
I doubt Media Center has anything to do with it. The error you posted specifically refers to a driver. The specific driver should be mentioned in the error screen, or may be in Event Viewer after the 8.1 Update rolls back.
MagicAndre1981
Do you see a DMP file after the rollback?
tal ormanda
No it failed to create one. It was caused by steel series software. Just solved it.
dencorso
Care to elaborate, please! "Just solved it" posts are so very frustrating...
Aloha
He said "It was caused by steel series software." Maybe he solved the problem by removing this software.

CharlotteTheHarlot
There is an issue with the update that nukes power profiles, I mentioned it here. It could easily be related to the OP failure.Source ... NeoWin
