Try using HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\DWM key, REG_SZ value CustomThemeAtlas to load it. Make sure your path doesn't contain any spaces.

I currently use SIB+ by Tihiy and it has a feature to change color of taskbar. It doesn't work anymore since I try Aero Glass rc1 from you. Is it possible to make an exception for it? thanks

I just experienced the first crash with RC1. I have attached the relevant log excerpt.

This caught my attention:

I think it's what happened when I tried to log back on locally after using the PC via RDP for some time.

I don't see anything wrong with it, because it is not crash. It is normal that DWM is restarted when user is logged out/in.

The problem is that as soon as I unlock the PC, the screen goes black. This only happens sometimes. I see the mouse cursor and can move it, but the rest is just black. When I press ctrl+alt+del, for a brief moment I can see the busy cursor, which means the OS is still responsive. I'm sure that if I could blindly restart the DWM, everything would go back to normal.

And yes, you still need to manually download symbols for udwm.dll, dwmcore.dll and dwm.exe else it won't work.

Currently it's quite easy for me to provoke a black screen by logging in from my tablet PC via RDP and then logging back in locally. Sometimes I see the windows appearing with a window style that looks exactly like the basic style of Windows 7. Shortly afterwards they disappear and everything is black. I made a copy of the debug log just a second before everything went black. The last lines look quite suspicious to me:

The problem seems to occur when Aero Glass tries to reload settings, which happens when I log back in. When I write about logging back in, I mean that the user session is already open but is locked and is unlocked either by unlocking the PC locally or by taking over the session remotely via RDP, which locks the PC locally.

Edit: Just to be sure it's not theme related, I switched to the original unmodified Windows 8.1 theme and it happened again. This time I was lucky and could close Aero Glass by pressing ctrl+c blindly. Everything suddenly went back to normal (except that Aero Glass was no longer loaded, of course). The log verifies this:

Hancoque: I am not sure if it is connected but I found interesting bug in DWM. When sidebar is opened when RDP is being closed, DWM crashes immediately after logging back into your account. And this happens regardless my Aero Glass library.

Tusticles: if your theme supports, it will be there.

After nearly a week of clean operation, and well over a day of hard use of RC1, I had a DWM restart (. It happened just moments after I let the machine go dark (power saving screen saver for the monitors only) last night. When I woke up the monitors by moving the mouse this morning, this was the scene. All normal, except that dwm.exe was showing (it had been minimized). I generally leave next to nothing running, just the clock, though IrfanView happened to also be running (I use that to capture desktop images); the orange Taskbar button is a Skype chat from a friend that arrived some 6 hours later).

Here's the log for the entire time of the run of the RC1 software. I haven't used RDP with it at all, though I find it interesting you've captured restarts of DWM.

By the way, I don't consider the above a particularly big problem. It happens when the monitors are off, restarts itself, and doesn't negatively affect anything I can detect. If the dwm window weren't there I'd probably not even have noticed it. I just figured you'd want to know about it, BigMuscle.

I checked your log and I see absolutely nothing which would point that problem is in my code. It's just regular DWM restart and if eventvwr log contains same entry as before, it does not come from my code (because I log every returned value which is different from S_OK).
