AFAIK, that's Tihiy's mod of the actual target of the reference that bearwindows made. And the link is alive again...

I don't know.

Bearwindows said "it exists an unofficial build", it is very possible (knowing Tihiy's abilities in tweaking things) that Bearwindows was making reference (vaguely) to that specific unofficial build by Tihiy.

I don't think so, because of the following small -- but significant -- detail:

;***********************************************************************; Info file for SciTech SNAP Graphics Windows 95/98/Me Display Driver;; Copyright (c) 1998-2006 SciTech Software, Inc. All rights reserved.;***********************************************************************

...whereas the same file in Tihiy's pack says:

;***********************************************************************; Info file for SciTech SNAP Graphics Windows 95/98/Me Display Driver;; Copyright (c) 1998-2003 SciTech Software, Inc. All rights reserved.;***********************************************************************

Yep, on the other hand, the post by Tihiy was made in October 2008, and the files in it are modified in various dates before that, among them a few do bear dates of September and October 2006 (i.e. compatible with the "vague" reference "dated by ~ autumn 2006" bearwindows made).

As said I don't know.

Here's another possible reference... transverse, but it has the right date in it...

Hello!
It seems that the latest beta (3.1.3) of Scitech SNAP supports
i915GM chipset ...

I'm still figuring out how to unpack the installer and install this thing manually, since I have a system with a 945GM but they only want to support 945G. I want to force the 945G drivers on it, I think it should work fine since the two are very similar. (It says "unsupported chipset" when run). There already is a modded Scitech SNAP Graphics video driver that supports the Intel 910G(ML), 915G, 945G, among other video chipsets, around the net, it seems.

JFYI, Exists an unofficial build of proprietary SciTechSoft SNAP Graphics 3.1.8 for Windows 9x dated by ~ autumn 2006.

Links you sent me back then for this are now broken. (I still have the files though.)

I tried using them with my HP ZD8000 laptop which has an ATI Mobility Radeon X600 chip (no ATI driver will work after hours upon hours of attempts).
They seem to work OK but I always get a "Fatal Error! Unable to load nga_w32.dll!" on boot and whenever I try to access the SDD control panel. (Running 95 OSR2)
I don't know if its related to this or not but after some time has passed the system sometimes locks up. Any idea if these drivers have problems on systems with large amounts (>512MB) of RAM?
Are these files from the last SDD version (7 beta) or a different version? Most info I can find on this seems incomplete, and you seem to be the most well versed on this subject...

I'd also like to request in your next version of VBE9x to include a 256MB version since they are now RAM-limited. Any updates in the works? :angel

BearWindows could you develop one that had 2D and 3D support for the integrated GPU Intel HD Graphics 1000, 2000, 3000, and 4000 that worked on the Sandy and Ivy Bridge Z68/Z77?  These still worked on XP with proper Intel drivers.

Is there any way to rip the ROM out of an older video card for emulation using your driver?  Something like an nVidia 6800 Ultra or 7950 GX2 would be a good one to emulate for 9X/ME.

Seeing as no development has been made in over three years, I don't think we will see anything new from him.

Too bad really, VBEMP makes 98SE on modern GPUs usable. Flawlessly working at 1080p on my H110 motherboard with the Pentium G4560 and Intel HD 610, with all VBEMP limitations considered.

H110 that's Skylake.  However I don't recall any 3D capability correct?  We need some sort of 9X/ME video card emulator for XP and Windows 7.  All the user would need is the original video card and dump it somehow.  The video card emulator could work with any iGPU or a discrete graphics card to do the work.  This would solve a lot of headaches for 9X/ME.  But for Midi emulation in DOS that's another problem without a PCI slot even though that is a half azzed attempt of a genuine ISA version.  A SB Audigy sound card emulator might be needed for some of the EAX effects to pass to the Intel or AMD HD HDMI Audio or a real PCIe sound card.  After that's solved it should be able to run just about every DOS / 9X/ME game on a modern computer.

Have you tested any 3D games with BearWindow's driver?  Was the performance lackluster or even possible?

I ran UT99 on VBEMP under 98SE using software renderer, but that was on a different PC (a nForce 550 chipset MoBo, with Socket AM2, and AMD Athlon 64 X2 6000+) I used a GeForce GT 220, and a HD 5670 DDR3 cards, both of them ran it. The performance was good due to the CPU being good.

But for 3D games without software renderer, you're out of luck. DirectDraw games maybe would work(?) Haven't tested them yet.

Good to know.  I just found a GeForce FX5500 I bought for testing in the Z77.  I'm going to see if it recognizes it properly in 98SE.
