XPSP3 for new PC

Asp

Recommended Posts

I'm getting a whitebox PC.

it won't include any OS. I want to get XP 32 bit running on it.

specs:

Intel Pentium Dual Core G2020

CPU(3M,2.9G,LGA1155)

Intel Desktop BoardDh61WWB3 ,m-ATX MB

Corsair DDR3 1333MHz 4GB CMV4GX3M1A1333C9

Value Select RAM

GTR 9806 Micro SFX Tower case

MAXXON ECON-M330 330W Tiny Power Supply

ADATA 2.5" AS511S3-60GM-C S511 60GB SATAIII SSD

LG GH-24NS95 24X SATA DVD Writer

Note that there is an SSD drive, which will be the boot drive, and onboard video.

I'll probably add a SATA disk drive as well, for backup and storage.

Will a standard XPSP3 CD install on this?

I guess I'll need drivers from Intel (for the mobo), but will it install with generic drivers?

I know XP won't see all the RAM, I can live with that.

Any other gotchas?

I see no reason why it shouldn't. Does the version of XP w/SP3 you're using have any updates included or is it really out-of-date? I ask because you could update the source to include recent updates, WMP11, drivers, etc by using nLite, the Ryan VM Integrator, DriverPacks, and the WMP slipstreamer which could save some installation time.

You need to either slipstream Intel SATA (AHCI) driver or run in IDE emulation mode (if the BIOS allows it).

You can read most of the things you need to know about the first option in this excellent topic (if you haven't already). You need 32bit Intel RST textmode driver v11.2.0.1006 WHQL driver.

The second option will allow you to install standard XP from CD without any modification, but you lose some speed. Whether you notice it or not, it's debatable, but since you have a SSD it's always better to have AHCI.

It appears that Intel supports XP for this board, or at least has drivers available.

Yeah, that was what the builder told me, but good to confirm.

Anyway, seems I need to slipstream the SATA drivers to do it right.

Thanks.
