Data Collection on Everyone Discussion

I suppose everyone is following this, maybe not. Thought I would post a few links of what has developed. It's huge ... it can work for the good but we all know how that can change.

Postal service photographs front and back of EVERY piece of mail it processes.

Postal Service computer system that “incorporates a Mail Isolation Control and Tracking (MICT) program which photographs and captures an image of every mail piece that is processed.

FBI Wants Backdoors To Snoop On Nearly All Internet Communications

New Xbox by NSA partner Microsoft will watch you 24/7

There are more stories with links here for now but they will change probably by sometime tomorrow with new news. We have a member here named herbalist but I haven't read any posts from him for sometime ... but he was all about prying eyes and spying and covering one's tracks on the internet, I guess he had it right.

Lots of spying news links upper left side.

Just curious what others have to say ... it's a huge amount of information that they are storing somewhere ... not to mention what Google is storing "forever".

I heard that the XBox will only work if you connect it to the internet as least once every 24 hours. How stupid is that? When I was a kid I had a Nintendo and Sega Genesis. You didn't have to connect them to the internet to keep them working.

In regards to the FBI wanting a back door into all your software... well, unless they feel like tracking down the source code to all my ancient DOS, Windows 3.1, and Windows ME/98/95 software.... good luck with that.

I'm a diehard Windows ME user. As I type this, I'm on dial-up and using Netscape 9 with no javascript.

Newer operating systems don't exist in my world view. Everything is now designed to be accessible to outside parties, without the users permission. Technology and internet freedom reached it's peak back in the nineties. I remember surfing the web back in the mid nineties, when it was new, using Windows 3.1 and Netscape 1 or 2.

THAT, back then, was the internet. You typed a word into Web Crawler or InfoSeek search engines and the results were mostly people's homepages, which were designed by actual people. Shock! Sure, the presentation was kinda quirky, but it was unique and fun. Well, now homepages are dead and gone, and you have stupid blogs which must be run according to the rules of Google/Wordpress or whomever, and they can delete them at will, without reason or notice.

The internet back then was so exciting and fun. Everything was a homepage that somebody took the time to design from scratch. Everything now is swamped in consumerism, commericialism, and general BS.

Sure, computers now are faster, but I thought the computers from back then were GOOD ENOUGH (mine is a Pentium III less than 1 GHz)... and I have fond memories of all the computer games from my youth. Everything now is just saturated in violence and bloodshed... it's sickening. I remember playing Number Munchers, the original Oregon Trail, and Carmen San Diego at school. Then as I got older I still played lots of DOS arcade games. I still got a few on this computer... if anybody remembers those PLBM Games by Kurt Dekker. He released all of them as freeware. I still play his Frogger and all those occasionally.

I guess you could blame Doom or Wolfenstien 3D for the gore in games nowadays.

Getting back to the back door in all software, I will keep using my ancient technology, and hopefully fly under their radar.

What Microsoft has not promoted, however, is the fact that you will not be able to power on the console without first enabling the Kinect, designed to detect both heartbeats and eye movement. and positioning yourself in front of it.

Only seemingly OT:

Many, many years ago I received as a gift a dog puppy that was just separated from it's mother (probably a bit to early).

After having the puppy crying all night long, an old friend, a farmer with lots of experience with cattle and animals, suggested to put at night in the puppy's basket a hot water bottle with some warm water inside it and an old alarm clock (tick - tick - tick) wrapped in a blanket.

It goes without saying that we (including the puppy) could sleep alright since.

What will be needed additionally?

;)

Just imagine the potential for a small antropomorphic upper body and head with automatically (randomly) moving eyes, a heartbeat and something to keep it at around 36.5 C (if needed), it would be a bit scary at first, and will take some serious estate on your couch, but imagine the satisfaction when:

  1. a Forrester Research (sponsored by MS) will declare how 95% of US teenagers have difficulties to concentrate (jusdging form the results of recorder eye movement analysis)
  2. a "civil rights" organization will sue MS for breaking the privacy of population
  3. a group will start a class action against MS affirming that their sons and daughter actually suffer from random eye movement AND that the XBOX is what caused it

Nice puppy story jaclaz ... always felt bad for puppies and kittens when they are taken away maybe too early and feel bad for the mother also but it all passes in time but it has to be traumatic for awhile ... some warmth and a little heartbeat type sound ... can always learn a lot from a farmer, that knowledge is passed on from way back.

I'm wondering if MS is recording the eyes or the iris for identification ... that is just like fingerprints. I just read somewhere that they may do that when they get fingerprints from now on. MS would have a huge ID iris data bank of kids going into old age ... a lifetime of what all they did.

New Biometric Software Tracks Unique Eye Movements For Identification

LostInSpace2012 ... I still have my Nintendo from 1991 ... it's like new and I am quite happy with that ... did buy a PlayStation 2 some years back, it's OK but still like my early Nintendo. At least neither one of them are recording my day to day goings on.

Oh, but I AM and will not succumb! (Data collection, etc...)

Watch out for your "free" accounts, FB, etc... (BigBro/1984) All you have to do is "like" some celebrity or product and then the "program" kicks in and "recommends you like" something/someone else. Happens on Twitter, too - follow someone and then "recommendations" kick in. Programmatically watching me much? So where is THAT data stored, hmmm?

Yep, wife hates my cursing the TV for various reasons, including but not limited to the "Great product! PSYCH!" commercials. "I'll take two orders of those side-effects-galore pills..." (Blue pill or Red, so undecided! Ahh, what the heck - BOTH!)

Oh, and even a LITTLE paranoia is healthy - keeps you from walking down a dark alley at midnight. ;)
