LoneCrusader
I have the Standard Universal PCI to USB Host Controller and the USB Root Hub in Device Manager. Now the loading box for the Standard OpenHCD USB Host Controller is coming up requesting the openhci.sys file. Do I need that or should I ignore that?Try pointing the Driver dialog to... C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM,.... The installation may have pre-copied the files to the proper locations, but the INF file is requesting them to copy again. This happens sometimes, even with Microsoft's own USBSUPP updates. Did you install USBSUPP.EXE and then USBUPD2.EXE (see Post #2)?If you use the two official USBSUPP packages, do NOT use my XUSBSUPP update that I linked. They should not be mixed.XUSBSUPP, while itself "unofficial," merges ALL available official USB-related updates into ONE installation.(Includes USBSUPP.EXE, USBUPD2.EXE, and 4 or 5 HotFixes) Edited April 20, 2013 by LoneCrusader

CharlotteTheHarlot
In lower center right is the J1 jumper for onboard video. Is this the right setting to enable Onboard Video? You said "lower center right" ? Either my eyes are failing me or you posted the wrong photo. I see no jumpers in there. Unless maybe in that dark area to the left of the big cap in the center of the photo. Can you use a reference like "to the left of" any of the shown items ( e.g., audio cable or floppy ribbon cable, or the three empty connectors, or those two big IC's, the small cap, the transistor ... ). Or you could just circle it in a image editor. P.S. if it is behind that big cap, the trick to taking a picture is to have a small LED flashlight on it to cancel the shadow before you snap the picture. The flash from the camera will almost always cause a different picture than you expect because of incidental shadows that do not exist until you take the photo. I did read the manual, that's how I knew it was the the J1 jumper. I just didn't know if the jumper was in the right position. Ok, since no one has commented on the BIOS settings I assume they are all correct? Edited April 21, 2013 by Hoko
LoneCrusader
Ok, since no one has commented on the BIOS settings I assume they are all correct?I believe they are all fine. Only (usually) on a much newer system would you have to do a lot of worrying about these settings.
submix8c
1 - There will be a marking indicating which end Pin#1 is. Then (obviously) the others a in a row, Pin#2 and Pin#3. If in doubt, WITHOUT the Add-In Video card -AND- the OnBoard is functioning -THEN- you now know which one is Pin#1 (see Manual). 2 - re - BIOS settings - Didn't I say there should be one or more Function Keys indicated in the BOTTOM of the Screen (or in the Main Screen) that tells "Setup Defaults" (preferred) and/or "BIOS Defaults"? AND Charlotte's eyesight is not as good as it once was! Thanks, I see it now ( d'oh! ). I missed that empty gold pin at the bottom of the jumper block ( so the jumper is on the upper two pins ).P.S. and yes, my old eyes suck.P.P.S. Oh, I didn't mean to criticize his camera skills, it's just a handy trick to know ( LED flashlight aiming at subject ). Often times you can then turn the flash completely off which results in no whiteout on reflective parts and usually means a longer shutter exposure as well. Better photo. submix8c
Starting to come back to me...SETUPStandard SetupPrimary Master Hard DiskType: User <-- Can this be changed to "Auto"?I don't see any "Boot Sequence" definitions? AFAICR, using the "Auto Detect IDE Devices" (when "Standard Setup" set to "Auto" if possible) allows the BIOS to look at the Device and set parameters accordingly. As for CD-ROM being listed, I can't actually remember, but I believe it needs to be or else the CD-ROM drivers need loaded in Win9x. It seems I remember that using the "Auto-Detect" that it wouldn't "stick" unless you Saved -AND- Exited. BTW, how do you "Save"/"Exit" - a Function Key(s) or a Screen Selection?Would it be possible for you to press the "Pause" Key when you first turn on the PC or in the BIOS Setup Screen to get the BIOS Version/Identifier? It would help in determining a BIOS update. You may need that to support (e.g.) larger HDD or faster CPU.Look here, scroll down to "Florida-TG" for "examples" of what you should see -http://www.elhvb.com/mboards/trigem/bios/list.htmlNotice to all - This info accurately provided will/may assist others with older eMachines (and maybe Gateways) in the future.edit - AHA!!!!
